I'm writing this because I don't want more people to go through what so many international students are going through today.
Please don't believe everything you see on social media or everything education agents promise you. The Canada that many people dreamed about a few years ago is not the same Canada international students are facing today.
Thousands of students came here with hope. They paid tens of thousands of dollars in tuition, left their families, worked long hours, sacrificed their mental health, and believed that if they studied hard and followed the rules, they would have a future here.
Many of them did exactly that.
They graduated.
They found jobs.
They paid taxes.
They contributed to this country.
And yet today, many are still living in uncertainty. Some have no realistic pathway to permanent residency. Others are running out of time and are preparing to leave the country after investing years of their lives and their families' life savings.
This isn't just about choosing a private college instead of a public university anymore. It isn't just about making sure your school is a DLI. It isn't about picking the "right" program.
The whole system has changed.
Students are spending enormous amounts of money with no guarantee that their education will lead to the opportunities they were promised. Rules keep changing. Immigration pathways become more competitive. Jobs are harder to secure. Many graduates who did everything they were supposed to do are still being forced to leave.
Look at what has happened in Quebec with CSM and CSS. Look at the countless graduates across Canada who are sharing their stories. These are not isolated cases.
I'm not saying no one succeeds. Some people absolutely do. But I am asking you to stop believing that studying in Canada automatically leads to permanent residency or a successful career. For many people (thousands) today, it simply doesn't.
Please, before you pay that tuition deposit...
Before your parents borrow money...
Before your family sells land, takes out loans, or spends years of savings...
Research the reality today, not the success stories from years ago.
Talk to graduates who finished recently. Ask them how the job market really is. Ask them how many are still waiting for a pathway. Ask them how many are packing their bags to go home after giving Canada everything they had.
Your dreams deserve the truth.
Your family deserves the truth.
Your money, your time, your youth, and your future are too valuable to risk without knowing what you're getting into.
Please don't make this decision blindly.
Do your research. Ask difficult questions. Listen to the people who are living this reality—not the people who profit from recruiting more students.
I truly hope no one has to experience the heartbreak that so many international students are living through today.
