CIC Website states:

You must have some documents with you enter Canada. Without these documents, you will not be allowed into Canada.

1.Essential documents:
•a Canadian immigrant visa (if applicable) and a Confirmation of Permanent Residence for each family member travelling with you
•a valid passport or other travel document for each family member travelling with you
•two (2) copies of a detailed list of all goods (personal or household items) you intend to bring into Canada as settler’s effects (showing the value, make, model and serial number if the item has one). Divide the list into two sections: the goods you are bringing with you and the goods to follow.
•Two (2) copies of a list of items that are arriving later and their money value.

Do not pack these documents in your luggage. Keep them with you at all times.

Thank you so much for the detailed reply; I ve one more question. Would I need to get the photocopies notarized? What is the trend there if they ask for photo copy of any xyz doc?
If your original documents are not in English or French, you will need to get them translated. The language and type of translation (general, certified, notarized, etc.) will depend on the place you chose to live and what you need the translations for (education, health, legal, work, etc.). - Reference cic.gc.ca

I'll check the 2 year time period part but the 'Goods to follow' list must be presented to Border Authorities and needed to be officially stamped on your 1st arrival as PR. Once the personal effects arrive in Canada ( any border), you would present the attested list and be able to collect your shipment.
I dint understand well, elaborate bit more please

You do not have to pay duty on:
•Antiques
•Appliances, such as a stove or refrigerator
•Books
•Clothes
•Furniture
•Hobby tools and other hobby items
•Jewelry
•Linens
•Musical instruments
•Private collections of coins, stamps or art
•Silverware
•Gifts (worth CDN $60 or less each)

Jewelry or precious ornaments

Officers may ask you questions about these items during your customs interview. Make sure you describe these items on your list of goods. To avoid delays at customs when you enter Canada:
•On your list of goods, use the wording from your insurance policy or jeweler’s appraisal.
•Have photographs of the items.
•Know how much you paid for the items or have a receipt showing how much you paid. You do not need to pay duty or tax on family heirlooms

you do not need receipts or proof of purchase for jewelry. When I declared my jewelry on my B4 for landing all i wrote was "1 bag of jewelry" and assigned a value for the whole lot. if you have valuable jewelry that is insured and appraised, then you would want to write that separately. if you are wearing your wedding jewelry, you don't need to declare it either. the officers are not going to go through every item and expect you to prove you bought everything or show receipts of purchase. I doubt they will even look in the bags/boxes you bring in.

When my wife landed in March 2014... the customs officer did not ask her for anything.... I had her prepare that B4 form n take pics of her jewellery etc... but she wasn't asked to present any of that.... all she was asked was a couple of questions for the PR card application.... which the officer fills out at the time of landing.... as long as u r travelling with less $10000 worth of jewellery n cash u don't need to declare anything....

As for shipping a car from middle east.... definitely not a good idea as it will become more of a headache.... u will also have to pay to have the car winterized for driving conditions in Ontario (things like daytime running lights, windshield heating, etc)..... a car is a significant expense in Canada due to insurance rates n I would imagine insurance rates for ppl from newcomers would b high.... before u even get into all this u would need a driver's license which is another process in itself.... u would have to essentially start from scratch unless u have a driver's license from Europe or US... u will not b able to drive right away so plan on using public transit for the most part.... I would advise to stay in a big city where access to public transit is easy

But I'd thought as a New PR you can drive with an International Driving License for 3 months.

My favorite thing to reference is actually a Welcome to Canada book thing.

They have both an e-book and a pdf version of it. It has everything and more you'd want/need to know and stuff you likely already know, but it's a great reference and I've read/skimmed through it a few times now

It can be found here:

Yes.... that's true.... but 3 months is not long enough to get a full driver's license in Ontario... it can take up to 3 years.... u start off with G1 then go up to G2 after 1 year n finally G after another year... unless u have a license from back home n u've had it for more than a year... in this case u can get an exception to the one year wait between G1 and G2.... while u have G1.... u cannot drive by ur self n must b accompanied by a fully licensed G driver with atleast 5 years of driving experience....

Honestly.... driving a car back home is easy.... u just have to have enough money to buy the car.... In Canada that's not the case at all.... its very expensive to own and operate a car

as long as its under $10000 u should b ok.... but if u're travelling back alone they might question where u got all this gold from
