A quick question if anyone can reply would be appreciated!
Can I apply for OCI walking into any BLS centre or it has to be within province?
In my case I am from BC, instead of going to BLS surrey can I go to BLS Calgary?
I had hard time with another family members OCI already so they returned my mail application and asked me to add a few documents and then mail it again. So lesson learned to go walk in for my own application.
TIA.

Call the helpdesk and check if they allow out of province submission. Check https://www.blsindia-canada.com/ It reads: Applicants are solely responsible for the application(s) they submit. Any false or misrepresentation of facts, incomplete or invalid supporting documents will have a direct bearing on the decision carried out by the High Commission/Consulates General of India. Applicants are required to submit their applications as per Consular jurisdiction.

Also, Check if you are willing for Premium Lounge, which may allow to do so

For those who got their OCI approved in the past 6-12 months and had an active voter id when applying :

  • Is everyone just submitting a signed declaration for 'surrendering/cancelling your voter id' part and dealing the actual cancellation/surrender of voter id process at a later stage ?
  • If yes, did it cause any issues when traveling on your OCI or otherwise ?
  • What did you finally do to officially surrender your voter id at a later stage ?

I'm researching the process and trying to understand what exactly i need to do, this step is kinda confusing.

Some details :
  • I can see my details on the voter list/system (searched online using EPIC# - found this in my old emails with a scanned copy of voter id)
  • I don't have an online account on the voter services portal and I don't have an Indian phone number for OTP to create an account.
  • I also have no clue where the actual voter id (physical copy) is and have never used it.
  • I understand from previous posts here that - there are additional problems folks encounter, even if they manage to create an online account, with regards to filling out and submitting 'Form #7 / Form 7 - overseas' and whatever additional steps come next to complete the cancellation/surrender.

Personally I won't sweat, it is India, where we all know how law/red tape/inconsistent process operates.

I had a family member hand over the card but I emailed them a completed form 7 along with other details as per their request. My phone number associated with my voter ID is no longer with me so even i could not do the OTP part, hence the workaround. I do know of others who were able to submit the form 7 overseas directly via the website by signing up there as they had their phone numbers. For the several days after sending my form I could still see my voter ID details on the website. Personally, what matters is that I did my part and have evidence of it.

And yes, it's India nobody sees/cares but let us not forget this very attitude is why we left that country and it's citizenship. If we continue to behave like this then we are still the same mentality we tried to escape. Sorry if this was somewhat blunt - answering your questions hit a nerve.

This is exactly why i asked the question in the first place - so we're on the same page here.
Appreciate you replying to share your experience.

I have the same situation, so i might need to do what you did, except skip the handover of physical voter id card part (cannot find it).
I believe you got your OCI card based on previous posts here, so seems like this worked.

Coming to the workaround, I have some questions on specifics, if you don't mind answering them:
emailed them a completed form 7 along with other details as per their request
  • Did you download 'Form 7 - English' offline and fill it out by hand and scan it ?
  • Is this the correct link to download form 7 - https://voters.eci.gov.in/ ('download' button on the left in the 'deletion' red box)
  • Who did you email the completed Form 7 to - the election/voter office(i believe it's called ERO but not sure) ? or to your family member to submit in-person along with the physical voter id ?
  • If you emailed the completed form 7 to the ERO, is there somewhere online i can find the details of my local ERO office/officer and their email ?
  • What are these 'other details' you emailed along with the completed Form 7 ? and is there somewhere online i can find a checklist ? - OR - Did you correspond with your local ERO officer via email before initiating all this, to find out what exactly they need to delete your name/surrender voter id from the list ?

For the several days after sending my form I could still see my voter ID details on the website

Did it end up disappearing from the website finally ?

OCI application (BLS Toronto With Appointment, Premium Longue)

Background: Single Applicant. Spouse and Kid aleady have their OCIs. I was in India till Jan due to medical issues and treatment on e-Visa (5.5 months) and came back to apply for OCI.
-> Voter ID: I surrendered in Person at local office, filled Form 7 there and I was given a receipt for upload. The online status changed subsequently for completion.
-> Ration Card: I physically cancelled for whole family - online as well as Physical cancellation - at local Ration card office. Got the receipt with stamp for cancellation of the Ration card.
-> Visited local Passport office for Surrender Certificate (SC) and they have taken fingerprints, took photo, filled forms, same day SC was given in the afternoon. Much worth for 550 Rs and was efficient! Had to make two trips in total as the officer was not there and not many applicants (Total 4 on my visit second time)

For OCI:
Application submitted : Feb 02, 2026: Security Guard checked the appointment letter and ID. Allowed with Sticky note #7 i.e. my queue spot for OCI.
Two times all documents were checked. My form submission was updated and new online application was created as they wanted to add spouse and kid's OCI copies apart from the Declaration of Voter ID and Ration card cancellation with signature and new date. They created new form, asked me to check details as Final. I did upload scanned copies (self attested) of Canada Passport, SC, Spouse passport, Kid passport, India cancelled Passport front and Back, Naturilzation/Citizenship certificate, Photo ID and Electricity bill, Marriage certificate copy, my Birth certificate copy, Employment confimation letter. paid fees by Debit Card of 478$ CAD.
