You need to have your husband speak to his employer's payroll & benefits coordinator and ask what the policies are regarding.....
a. who can be covered under family plan?
b. do those family members have to reside under same roof? same country?
c. does the plan cover pre-existing conditions?

Then have him ask to see those answers in writing. SOMETIMES you will find you are asking about an exception to benefit policy rules and the employers love to say "we have no control over that. It is decided based on the benefits plan provider (aka insurance company)". While this is kind of true it is also kind of not. When there is a potential exception to a benefit policy, the employer will apply to the insurance provider on behalf of the employee. The provider will then contact the executives of the employer who decide if they are willing to pay extra (if needed) to accept the exception. The provider will then reply to the employer's benefits administrator as if they had made the decision which is then forwarded to the employee with the approach of "yes you will be covered" OR "we're sorry the insurance company has spoken".

So the bottom line is for your husband to speak to his employer and if they say they will not cover you, he should escalate it with his employers organization.

Best wishes!!

Love how you always have a positive attitude! We need more people like you in this world : ) And congratulations to bo12! that's so exciting!!

I have a question that is a little off topic but kind of has to do with sponsorship. Recently, my father just got laid off from his job, and through his job he purchased medical insurance for me and himself. So now that the he doesnt work there anymore I no longer will have health insurance at the end of this month (which is coming around very quickly) and I need to have health insurance because I have a condition where I need to take a medication every day or else I can end up hospitalized or something can go really wrong in which case I'd have to leave my job and then we'd have no money at all. My husband works for Lowe's, which is an American company, and through Lowe's he gets health benefits through an insurance company called Manulife, which i also believe is an American company. Now, my question is.... Since I am an American citizen, can I be covered under my husbands benefits since we are married and he has benefits through and American company? Or do the international borders and everything to do with me not having rights to Canadian health care etc. restrict me from getting that?

I don't see why it would a problem get your husband to call manulife you probably just have to send in some documents showing that infact your his wife. Good luck hope it works out for you both.

Thank you! We figured that's what it would all boil down to. I hope it works out because I heard it takes up to 3 months to be covered under OHIP after you're a landed immigrant, and 3 months of no health insurance is not good for me : (

If you don't get any "good news" from your husband's employer, you could look into purchasing separate health care (ie: Blue Cross) but still ask them the same questions as described below.

Great news!!!

My partner got her passport request today, by email. (We are Canadian and American, applying through the Ottawa office). Hoooray!! It looks from the timelines I've seen like we can expect her actual visa to be issued within the next 30-60 days. Which is amazing and awesome and means that she can actually look for paying work when she gets here.

I hope that you all get good news soon too!!!
That's AWESOME!!! I think you might be the first couple in this group going through Ottawa to get your passport request!!?? Ours was sent in at the end of November, thanks for sharing the great news, definitely brightened my day to know that Ottawa is moving!

Hello Everyone! It is great to see all the good news that is rolling in on our applications.

I was not able to do my medical before sending in my application because they changed how it is done on November 1, 2013 to now have the visa office prompt you to do the medicals. So I have been waiting for Ottawa to inform me which came last Thursday.

I moved my job with the airline from Philadelphia to Burlington, VT so I could spend each night at our house in Montreal. Before I made the move I asked the border if there would be any problems and they issued me a temp res visa with "Visitor" status so that I can cross almost each day. No problems at the border with the temp visa and nexus. Just waiting for pr.

So my medical request sent to me by Ott-CPP was Thursday April 11, 2013
I just did my medical exam today Mon April 15, 2013 and they gave me a certificate saying the medical was done to send to Ott-CPP.

So I scanned my medical certificate and also an up to date passport copy to send off to Ottawa via email.

God Willing I hear good news fast. After starting with my CSQ Feb 2011 to now I'm ready to plant my feet in Canada and live and work with my hubby.

Best of luck to all and keep it positive, We will be at home in Canada soon :-* :D :-*

Good Morning everyone,

I was wondering if anyone has had their home address appear on ECAS as "city, province, canada" as well as your mailing address?

I have not updated my address and wondering if this coud be a good sign?

Let me know,

David

I noticed the same change of address as of late March. I'm taking it as a good sign too.

I just noticed my home address is up there just how you describe , and also that I have changed from 'in process' to 'decision made'. Really hope this is a good sign!
