It seems nothing is straightforward...

I know that when I did my initial application to Canada in 1996 from the UK the medical information was kept by the approved doctor and sent to the CIC with a file number etc. I got my landed immigrant status on the professional category. (Became a citizen in 2003.)

I am sponsoring my partner under the 'family/common-law' class and have seen nothing on any forms on the CIC website that say the approved Doctors will keep hold of his medical info and we have to send the completed application via them. We don't have a number as we haven't started the process yet - we're doing it all in one go - me as a sponsor and him to got for PR status.

Question then - what is the process for the medical he's just had - can we request the files/x-rays or should we send the completed application through them?

You send your application directly to CIC (minus the medical results).

The doctor sends your medical results directly to CIC.

No - you should not give your application to the doctor to submit. No - the doctor cannot give you the medical results to submit.

Was your partner given a medical information sheet with his pic on it ?You just need to send that one along with your application then the clinic will send other medical result to CIC.

Good luck

Thank you Cathy,
yes my partner did get a medical information sheet with his pic on it. I suppose that's how the CIC will connect the two given we don't have a case number yet?

You are welcome Jonesy.
UMI number is on that information sheet so CIC will track your partner's medical results by that number.

Make sure you make a copy for yourself just incase. I came 10 years before you and we had to have our medical done in London at the immigration center its self. How times have changed ..

See Taffy reminded you to make a copy.

It is a good idea because your partner might need the medical exam to extend his stay in Canada while waiting for PR.

thank you both - I plan on making copies of everything, may kill a few trees in the process but need the back ups just in case!

Hi Jonesy, I just scanned everything so I didn't need to waste paper.
