Hello everyone!I've been quietly browsing this forum for months, and today I finally decided to share my story – partly to give back to the community, and partly because I need advice from those who have already made it this far.Like many here, my journey to Canada began with a mixture of hope, uncertainty, endless paperwork, and the compulsive portfolio check syndrome. I began thinking seriously about immigration last year when I realized that the career opportunities and social environment in Canada matched the life I wanted for my family. But the more I researched the issue, the more daunting the options became: Express Entry or PNP? Study permit or job offer? On my own or with the help of a consultant? In the end, I chose Express Entry. I improved my IELTS score (writing was my main challenge), improved my CRS score by retaking the test, and spent all night studying NOC codes as if my future depended on it—and it did. Here are a few things I learned along the way that might be helpful to others:Don't underestimate IELTS preparation. Even native speakers were surprised by lower-than-expected written scores. Practice, feedback, and strategy are essential.Recheck every document. A missing signature or an improperly formatted letter can delay progress for months.Don't get hung up on other people's deadlines. Every case is unique—country of origin, background check, NOC category, etc.Stay organized. I kept a spreadsheet (yes, I'm one of those people) with document dates, expirations, submission status, and official responses. This forum is invaluable. I learned more here from real applicants than from any government website or consultant. I'm currently waiting for a final decision, and I won't lie, the wait is emotionally draining. There are days when I'm optimistic, and there are days when I'm sure something will go wrong. But when I see others sharing their success stories—people who once waited just like me—it motivates me.And now my question to the community:How did you cope mentally during the waiting period? Did you distract yourself, immerse yourself in Canadian culture, prepare job applications, work on your French, or do something completely different?I'd love to hear your stories, especially from those who've already settled in Canada—what surprised you most after arriving? Did you experience culture shock? Did your expectations match reality?Thank you to everyone who participates here. Whether you ask questions or offer advice, you have no idea how many silent readers you inspire every day.
