Hello everyone, I am sorry if this is a stupid question, but this process has been very confusing and I would appreciate your guidance/input. I recently submitted my application for CEC and i'm waiting to hear back. When I was filling out the personal history form I put my 4 years of school which I did here and my 1.5 yeas of experience I'm claiming for CEC. Since I covered the entire period from when I turned 18 to now, when I went in to add some student jobs I did i got a message saying "warning: this experience is not necessay" or something along those lines I unfortunately did not take a screenshot of the message.

The reason i am worried is because I just realized I included those jobs on my study permit application a while back. I am now worried IRCC will think I'm lying or withholding information from them, even though i am not trying to claim points for those jobs or anything i genuinely thought they weren't necessary for my application and was worried I would make a mistake that would cost me my application and i can't really afford that sicne my work permit is expiring soon.

Should I send an update throught the web portal? I believe they haven't checked my application for completeness yet. Is this something that could cost me the application? Thank you so much for your help

Hi there,
I completely understand your concern—it’s totally normal to feel a bit stressed with everything going on. The good news is that mistakes like this are usually not a dealbreaker, as long as you’re transparent about them. It’s important to note that adding those student jobs was probably just flagged because they didn’t count towards your CEC points, so you’re right in thinking they weren’t necessary for the application.

As for updating your information, if you’re still within the application review stage and haven’t received a response yet, it might be worth sending a quick clarification through the web portal. Just mention that you mistakenly included those student jobs but weren’t intending to claim points for them. IRCC is generally understanding as long as you're upfront and provide the right context.

In terms of the risk to your application, it doesn’t seem like this would cause an issue unless there was intentional misrepresentation, which doesn’t seem to be the case here at all. They likely won’t penalize you for something that wasn’t relevant to the points you're claiming. Stay calm, and don’t hesitate to update them—it’s always better to be transparent!

Good luck with everything! I hope your application goes smoothly.

Thank you so much for your response!! I really appreciate it. Your words really helped me calm down. I ended up doing exactly what you said: I sent a clarification through the IRCC web form this morning explaining what happened and detailing the jobs I didn't include. Hopefully everything goes smoothly.

Thank you again for your response and kind words!!
