Hi everyone,

I will soon be traveling to Canada to complete my landing as a Permanent Resident and I’m planning to bring my cat with me. I want to make sure I prepare everything correctly so there are no problems either when leaving Uzbekistan or when entering Canada.

So far I have already done the following:

• My cat has an international veterinary passport
• The passport has been officially registered with the state veterinary authorities in Uzbekistan
• Rabies vaccination has been done recently
• Other routine annual vaccinations were also completed within the last month

I’m trying to understand what else is required to bring a cat into Canada smoothly.

For those who have already done this, could you please share your experience?

  1. What additional documents are required to legally bring a cat into Canada?
  2. Do I need an official veterinary health certificate issued shortly before the flight?
  3. Is a microchip required for cats entering Canada?
  4. Are there any specific declarations or forms required when entering Canada with a pet?
  5. Is there anything specific I should prepare when leaving Uzbekistan with a cat?
I would really appreciate any advice or tips from people who have recently traveled to Canada with a cat, especially when landing as a new PR.

Thanks in advance!

Have you ask the airline or transit countries about their requirements? No microchip is required for pets entering Canada, though but might be required by the transit country.

I brought my dogs with me to Canada. I don't recall all I did, but:
1. We were told to microchip. Not sure if it is different for cats.
2. You'll have to deal with your local animal body + Canadian equivalent (forgot their name). Usually, Canada is the easiest/most direct to deal with. At minimum, you need: rabies vaccination certificate, vet health certificate (very important to allow the cat to fly), microchip.
3. When my dogs reached here, I had to fill the form at the cargo unit and it wasn't very lengthy at all. Not sure if you'll be required to fill those if your cat is travelling as a cabin luggage with you.
4. Depending on your airline, they might request/or keep some pet documents that you have (Air Canada does that). So, scan all documents (or take photos) so that you can pass that to your vet in Canada when needed.
5. You will very likely need a pet export permit/certificate from your govt - see if that's needed.
