Lena, my wife is also from El Salvador & I am the canadian sponsor. My wife file was received in June 2012, but her medicals expired and she got new ones done in August. I was approved as sponsor in September, from then the file was transferred to Mexico around October 15. The application went "In Process" on January 15, 2013, pretty similar to Dazz'.

Good luck with your application.
Farfelu did your wife get asked to do new medicals because they expired or did she just do it on her own because she knew they were expired?

Our medicals will expire 03/13/2013 so I am wondering if we should be pro active in getting new medicals in march or should we wait untill if/when they ask us?
We really just dont want any delay everything has been so slow for us.
Any thoughts?

Chuladaa, i had to change our mailing address because some issues with the original one, so I submitted a case specific inquiry through https://dmp-portal.cic.gc.ca/cicemail/intro-eng.aspx?mission=mexico

My address was updated within a month but they never confirmed anything which is pretty frustrating as you may already realize.

Good luck.
Thank you! when you say it was updated within a month where was that on the ecas?

Hey that's so cool let's stay in touch and exchange info.
We sent the application Nov 16 it arrived on Nov 19 and I was approved as a sponsor Feb 6 so far no further updates. You must be close to being done then if they are already processing it. Where in El Salvador does your wife live? Are you with her there or are you waiting in Canada?
I'm going to visit my hubby in May again it's sooooo hard being apart but it's totally worth it because after all this is done we will be together forever :)
Hope it goes fast!!

Sounds like you have options:

1. Proactively redo the medicals.
Pro: it's done and you avoid any delay in the process due to the medicals, you potentially extend flexibility to land when it's convenient (vs. in a huge rush)
Con: cost of the medical exam (which may not be necessary)

2. Wait and hope that your application is completed within 15 months and that the officer reviewing your case decides to ask for an extension
Pro: you save the money and inconvenience
Con: delay from either response time for Regional Medical Office to extend medical (cannot be requested until everything else is done and medical is only thing in the way) or from having to do medical when CIC requests it. Plus potential that medical request comes at an inconvenient time.

Depending on where you are in the process (PGR and SSP already submitted), if you know that it's unlikely that they'll be done in the next 3.5 months and, therefore, your medical will likely not be extendeable then option 2 may not even apply it becomes a question of proactively redoing your medical or waiting until it is requested.

Thanks so much OhCanadiana.
My initial thought is to proactively redo the medicals but possibly wait a little longer until the week of their expiry just in case by some miracle we are approved. I have ordered our notes and are expecting them at the beginning of March so that might help shed some light.

Do you have the instructions of how to go about redoing the medicals without having a request from the embassy? Is my husband just able to make an appointment me or will they refuse to do them?

Our case required an ARC as my husband is a failed refugee. So our SSP, PGR, and RCMP have already be submitted. He has passed criminality and our interview has been waived. We received the request for the ARC on Dec 7th and it was received by the embassy Dec 13th and we have not heard from them.
I understand ARC processing is typically 2-6 months. My thoughts are it could be any day now but it also could be months from now and I just don’t want the medicals to delay us another month. I think at this point we would be better to pay for the medicals that may not be needed to save our self the possible delay of doing them later.

Please let me know if you know how we can go about re doing the medicals.

Thanks so much!

From my notes that I requested. Eligibility is passed and they stated interview had been waived. We requested the notes after 3.5 months with no communication and no response to our cse.

It takes 30 days from the day of the request. So by the time you get the notes they are 30 days old :( so if there was any activity from the day of the request you won't see it

As a spousal sponsorship applicant, your husband doesn't need any documents from CIC to be able to do his medical. If the doctor's office hesitates, emphasize that he's going through family class sponsorship (since it's the exception, there's often confusion) since it is allowed.

As you think through the timing, keep in mind that (i) it takes 2-3 weeks to process the medical exam and link it up to your immigration file (the new e-medical process should speed it up some but it's still being rolled out) (ii) at this point, they are really unlikely to issue the CoPR unless they extend the medical since they need to give you, IIRC, at least a couple weeks validity on the CoPR. You'll need to weigh that against the risk of the ARC taking a lot longer and needing to redo the medical again in a years time.

Consider also including your consent as the sponsor if you don't want them to redact everything related to you. Ditto for any children (as a parent you can sign on their behalf if they are still minors).

Yes that is correct if you are in Canada you can make the request on behalf of the person in Mexico they need to fill out the consent form http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM5744E.pdf
And then you send an email with the consent, the request, proof of the payment, and I included a copy of my passport to prove I am Canadian
You get an auto response back right away and then your 30 day wait begins!

Note: If you decide to not send it in right away make sure you check if the forms have changed. (there is a date at the very bottom on the left) I ran into this problem because I sent in an old form by mistake. They seem to change often.

Congrats =) How long did it take from the day you were approved as a sponsor till they requested his passport?
