What sort of ban does the US have if you enter legally and over stay?
3-10 years depending.

My biggest fear is that even though your file is complete they will just hold onto it and make you wait .. I really hope that doesnt happen >:(
Based on our case, I wouldn't fear that.

that's good to know. i think i just worry too much. everything goes through our consultant first and he never seems to tell us things right away.

are most people not using consultants? ours was helpful with putting the application together, but since then he just seems to be in the way lol.

We used a consultant to help us organize and make sure the application was good, but everything goes through us, cic contats us not her.
But if we have any questions or need help with anything we ask her and she helps us right untill my husbands lands with PR. :)

We did everything by ourselves. It was a pain and took a lot of time and patience but I think we saved a lot in the long run. Our case is pretty simple though, if it was more complicated I would have done what LeisaP did:)

Ya. My spouse was a failed refugee so we decided using a consultant was a better choice just to be safe :)

i think we should have done it that way too. but my wife doesn't have internet where she is living in Mexico and i was staying there with her for a few months. so it just made more sense for the embassy to contact our consultant and then he could call us. but now i'm back in Canada, so i guess i should have switched the email to mine. oh well, we're almost done now...

That makes a lot of sense! Just be sure to check in with you consultant often for your Passport request because it should be soon :)

yeah we thought it best to use a consultant too because my wife was in Canada illegally for 4 years. and she was working illegally that whole time. better safe than sorry.
