I got an AOR today! I am so thrilled. It has been 80 days. I think approval comes pretty quickly after that but so few members get an AOR that I really don't know what to expect.

Thats awesome !! Must feel nice to have something in hand even if its just an AOR, at least you know they have your package in hand and are looking at it ! hopefully you gets some good news soon !

I will update the spreadsheet as well :)

I do feel good, thanks. I expect approval in 7-10 days. I just want this application in Mexico already!!

Why did it take so long for them to give you approval?

Also how long did it take you to hear from Mexico after approval?

Congrats! Don't forget you can do it in various states if you aren't in the DF :)

Also, you can send a case specific enquiry @ http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/offices/missions/mexico.asp letting them know you just got the letter and they'll give you an extension - just in case. It's better for them to know the delay was due to the mailing time ;)

Question: Hubby is undocumented in the US since he was a child. When we get his PR, can he fly from California to Canada? We enquired about him traveling within the US on a Mexican passport and we were advised not to because TSA has been instructed to check legal status. What go you think? Should he drive down to Tijuana and fly from Mexico?

When he gets PR and assuming he's still in the USA, he should be able to fly from California to Canada. Not sure what would happen at the California airport though, I mean would it matter he's illegal in the USA and somehow they will detain him?.
If he crosses the border into Tijuana, not sure what would happen at the border on the USA side as he's illegal. Do the americans check the status of people leaving the USA?. Time ago I read in the news that they do.
From Tijuana he would definitely be able to take a flight to Canada if there is one direct, otherwise might have to fly to Mexico City or some other mexican city where there is a direct flight to Canada.
Perhaps some other senior member with experience could avise better.
Best of luck either way.

Thanks! I sent them an email just in case!

@canadiangirl78: Yep 3 and a half months after sponsorship approval we got the police request letter...well actually we got the AOR AND the request for the police certificate on April 9th. But we needed the original letter to get the police certificate and it took a month to get here (yay mexican mail)!

TSA is only concerned that your boarding pass matches your ID. They are not immigration officials. The only time you encounter immigration officials is once you land in a foreign country. Their are exceptions to this (i.e. I know that when you are leaving Toronto Pearson International airport, they pre-screen you through immigration as there are many flights going to the U.S. and this saves time). But for flights leaving from the U.S. to Canada, TSA would not care if a person is undocumented or not. Their concern is that the person standing in front of them is who they say they are and that is how they verify it, through comparing a government issued identification (driver's license, state ID, U.S. Passport, foreign passport) with a boarding pass.
