Hi everyone!

I am sponsoring my spouse who is Venezuelan but was living in the Dominican Republic when we met and when we filed the application. As a result our Visa Office is Mexico.
I see a lot of people speaking of interviews, is this an obligatory process when going through the Mexico Office? I am getting super worried about this considering it will probably mean months more of delays...
I am sponsoring him to come to Quebec and have just sent my husband's CSQ today (July 7th) and got a response from the VO saying they have received it and added it to my file...
I was getting excited about getting one step closer to a final decision but now I am wondering if that was just wishful thinking...
Interviews arent mandatory but are pretty common. Right now people are waiting about two years... it will take quite some time as they are working on very little staff (mexico is getting hit hard with covid) and they will then need to clear the backlog. Be prepared to wait

2 years?? I saw someone's timeline who said they got an interview within 1 month of the request, how is that possible? And how can they make us wait 2 years when we have already waited 18 months! That's ridiculous!

Welcome to immigration waiting time.
We’re two years this month, most persons are from 2018 in here.
And back in March we got our interview request two weeks notice. So yea immigration don’t care they just give it to you as they see fit.
It’s more than ridiculous.

No
When we got our interview an pre arrival was March, few months back, so it wasn’t two years as yet this month will be our 2nd year.
Plus Mexico had lost our file in transit and was quiet for months until we pushed with emails for a reply.
so all that sums up this waiting.

Sorry I am confused. My question was from the date they told you would you have to do an interview, did they say how long it would take for you to actually get the interview? Like between the time you were requested for an interview and the time you actually had the interview, how long was that?

We were notified about two months upfront that we would need an interview, then when we got our date it was a two weeks noticed to get to Trinidad for it

Aaaah ok! I am actually relieved, I thought that we were going to have to wait another 2 years to get an interview date! And what if they ask for an interview in a place where the spouse needs a visa to go?

They would only request for the PA to come where closest to them.
So if you’re from the Caribbean then Trinidad VO it will be.
because they would also look at where the PA is coming from.

Well our office is Mexico because when we applied he was living in the Dominican Republic but now he is actually living in France which is on his file but considering the VO is still Mexico I would be surprised that they'd give us an interview in France... correct?
