Based on what we've seen here - it's around 2 years.

This is an unusual sponsorship application, so it's unlikely that IRCC has sufficient historical data on which to base an estimate. 12 months seems a reasonable guess.

Thanks both. 2 years is a long time and maybe too long. So I'm hoping zardoz is closer. Any ideas how I could find out accurately? Get a lawyer I guess?

Short answer is that you really can't.

Lawyer won't be able to help. Don't waste your money. IRCC hasn't published estimated processing times online because there are enough cases available to state processing times. If they don't know - a lawyer who proportionally sees far far fewer cases will have no clue.

You can try to use the search feature on this forum to see if you can find any cases here and related timelines. There unfortunately aren't that many and they may be quite tricky to find.

You could also order your GCMS notes every 3-4 months or so to see if that gives you any clue to progress.

Thanks Scylla, understood. Let me add a layer of complexity... This nephew is a current canadian PR but chose to take a job in the us instead of moving to Canada.(he's a uk national). He's been in the us for nearly 4 years and so doesn't meet residency req. I only add this now as I didn't realise it can take 6 months to renounce PR status. He would need to do this before he can be family sponsored? Any other options? I was assuming renouncing PR was immediate...

Yes - it's mandatory that he renounce before you sponsor him. You cannot sponsor him while he is still a PR. I'm not sure about it taking six months. However I would plan on 1-3 months.

Just to confirm, are you 100% sure you meet the lonely Canadian rule? This would mean both of your parents are deceased, you have no family in Canada (i.e. no siblings, aunts, uncles, etc.). Also that you have no children yourself or a spouse / common law partner.

May I ask if you could sponsor your nephew? I'm on the same boat. Thank you
OP's application most likely hasn't been fully processed yet if they applied last year. Processing times in this category are generally around the 2 year mark (maybe slower now due to COVID-19).

hi Jonnyn, any update on your case? I just applied my niece (December 2020) as I don’t have any of my parents. Wanting to know how possible it is to sponsor our niece/nephew. Thanks in advance

The person has not posted in almost 2 years. You say you applied so you must be eligible. Expect 2+ years processing.

I just applied as well. I am overage daughter of a Permanent Resident. I'd appreciate you let us know if you have news of your case. Thanks
