Hello everyone,
I was granted COPR last September but due to my work contract I will finally be able to land on the first week of June. I wanted to ask if anyone or their loved ones have done any recent landing in Toronto.
Is it necessary to have with you an international medical insurance? What questions are you asked and what papers should I have with me on hand?
It's been a while since I travelled abroad and I'm so nervous because I'm flying by myself, my husband is picking me up at the airport, any information or tip would be valuable!

Thanks in advance! Have a great day!

;D

no - it is not required to have travel insurance in order to land. it is your choice if you wish to be covered while you wait for OHIP to kick in.

all that is needed for landing is your COPR (approval paper) and passport. if you are declaring items at landing and/or anytime after, then you will need to fill out the BSF186 declaration form. the questions that are asked are the questions written on your COPR. they will also confirm the canadian address you want your pr card sent to. that is it. it is very simple and quick.

Obvious question, but you say you got your CoPR last September and plan to land in June. You have checked your CoPR, specifically the expiry date, and will it still be 'in date' when you land in June (see 'Expiry Date' close to the top of the form on the right hand side)?

I ask because CoPR's are normally only valid until one year from your medical date (so based on your timeline, I would think you are OK).

Hey Hurlabrick,
Thanks for your concern, I was asked to re-do my medical exams at the same time they asked for my passport, my COPR expires on September 2017.

In addition to CDNPR2014 answer, you may / should also have a customs list of 'goods accompanying' and 'goods to follow' if this is also you final settlement trip.

Landing experiences here (incl. for Toronto):

Should i list the money (15k cad)i bring in with me in the B4 form or i only have to list it in the paper that i will be given in the airplane before i the landing?

No, you do not list money on the B4 forms (yes, declare on the normal customs forms handed out on the plane).

As a matter of interest, CBSA are currently piloting / trialling an electronic scheme to replace the current paper customs declaration forms handed out on the aircraft. I ran across it recently when landing at Ottawa airport (AIUI the only current pilot site). You go to one of a number of touch screens, scan your passport, then answer the normal customs questions on screen. Prints out a piece of paper that you hand the CBSA agent later.
