You cannot come back to Canada from the US by public transportation: airplane, boat, train or bus without the PR Card. You can re-enter Canada from the US by private vehicle without it...you can use other documents:canadahopefully said:Hi Seniors,
I am planning to make a landing end of March 2016, after landing I want to go to US for a week and come back to Toronto by AIR, since I will not have a PR card received yet, can I re-enter Canada from Toronto airport if coming from USA on my COPR document and passport? appreciate your feedback please. Has anyone experienced similar situation? thanks!
Permanent residents of Canada
If you are a permanent resident of Canada you must show your permanent resident card when you re-enter Canada on a commercial vehicle, such as an airplane, boat, train or bus. If you return to Canada in a private vehicle, such as your car, there are other documents you can use. Such an example would be your record of landing/COPR documents as you suggest.
Some examples of private vehicles include, but are not limited to: a car, truck, motorcycle, or recreational vehicle that you own, borrow, or rent. It is a vehicle not available for public use.
If you can't find a way to travel by private vehicle, and you decide to travel back by air without the PR Card, you will need a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD). Here is the link to CIC where you apply for that document: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/applications/travel.asp
I have not experienced this myself, but have read about it in other forums here and researched it via Canadian Government websites.
