If you are carrying about $6000 Canadian funds, can the custom officer ask you where you got these funds from? (like a receipt? or a bank statement?)

If you have less than $10000, I don't think you have to even mention that you are carrying the funds.

true. although, they can still ask if he's carrying money, how much, and where he got it from.

Can they say they got the money as wedding gifts? (and this is why there is no receipt for it?)

Hello everyone!

I'm just new to this topic as our family visas are just about to be released. We are planning to land in Canada on the last week of August, 2014. We need any suggestions, opinion, or recommendations on HOW MUCH money we should take with us. We don't have much money for now, would that be okay if we only have USD3,000 cash. We are a family of 4. We are just worried if the Immigration Officer will check our Settlement Funds and what they will do if we did not meet the required amount.

Anyone can shed light here... Thank you in advance to those who can help us. God bless us all! :)

If I remember correctly, you *must* have the required settlement funds available with you when you land, or they can refuse to land you. Check the CIC website for confirmation. I think that this only applies to economic migrants and not to, for example, Family Class.
