Seems like we all discuss Sponsorship process from Application till COPR.

Haven't heard any recent landing experience lately.

Anyone want to share landing experience at YYZ (Toronto Pearson International Airport) in 2013?

Sure!

Two questions. Who sponsored you? Where (what correct address) are you going to live at? And then "Welcome to Canada". Ten minutes max.

My wife landed in October. The longest time was spent in line. Actual landing took a few minutes.

I posted my experience last month in this post:

Thanks Truesmile and Keesio.

Just wanted to find out what is the proper way to complete the Customs Declaration Form, for the first time landing immigrant, that is given on the Plane.

There is no different/special way. Just answer the form honestly. Since my wife and I came together, I filled it out since you just need one per family.

Thanks.

Also, I want to confirm something with you. You stated in your landing story for your wife, that she got her SIN number at the Airport. Is this new? Is it for any new immigrant now?

It depends on where the landing happens. YYZ is nice because there is a SIN counter right next to the new immigrant landing area. Not all places have this (especially some of the land borders).

I didn't think you could get it at the airport. I got mine from a Service Canada office just off Gerrard St in downtown Toronto. Landing for me was much as the others have reported. Long queue, short interview.

For the Customs Declaration, you are a Visitor until you actually land. After that, it will depend on whether you are "settled" or not. Landing and Settling are two different things. It's on Settling that you offer up your B4/B4a documents. Of course, Landing and Settling can come at the same time. One is an Immigration function while the second is a Customs function.

I think it is pretty new. When I landed in Pearson in 2009, there was no place to update my SIN number (I had a number for temporary workers). I had to go to a Service Canada office afterwards. So i was pleasantly surprised that my wife could get her SIN number right then and there.

Oh wait, Zardoz, I just saw in your profile that you landed recently. First off, congrats! Secondly, I'm surprised you couldn't get your SIN number at Pearson. What terminal did you land in? My wife landed in terminal 1.

Ah, that could be the difference... Air Transat into Terminal 3.

Could be. Why have it at just one terminal and not the other? Maybe they want to give a bonus to people who fly Air Canada :p

So, for the SIN number desk. all they need is the signed COPR by the officer and the Passport and the address?

Pretty much. The officer will even tell you, "Welcome to Canada. Now take these papers to that desk over there to register for a SIN number"
