you are right about travelling for you and other visa exempt people. But you are also wrong about me needing a visa to travel back to canada. I now just need my passport, and PR card. My visa was just for landing, single entry immigrant visa, and was actually cancelled and marked off by CBSA once i landed.
i never said you now need a visa to travel to canada. i said as someone who requires a visa (ie: NOT visa exempt), you need either your pr card or a pr travel document. that is how i differentiated you from me. you require permission (ie: visa/pr card/pr travel doc) to travel to canada, i do not.

AGAIN, you are referring to when a person requires a visa. a visa exempt person does NOT need the pr card or travel document to get on a plane or to enter canada. a visa exempt applicant can use the COPR upon entry after the first landing. like you said, a person who requires a visa must have EITHER the pr card OR the pr travel document. a person requiring a visa can not travel without one or the other. we are talking about 2 different things. the same rules don`t apply when you need a visa vs. when you don`t need a visa. the OP is visa EXEMPT, therefore they can travel to canada with their passport and gain entry to canada with their COPR AND passport together.
Do u have any references for ur info. I am not talking about getting on plane. U cannot use ur copr multiple times at the cbsa . All permanent residents are equal for the cbsa officer. It does not matter whether u r from visa exempt country or not. Even a person requiring a visa can prove that he is a pr by showing his copr. Of course he should be able to get on the plane first with the copr only.

Do I have this right -- I can fly into Cuba using my USA passport, and return with just my COPR (if my PR card hasn't come in yet)?

i believe yes, unless there is a visa exempt person who can prove this wrong. generally, the pr card is to "travel to" canada. your us passport alone allows you to do just that. the airline should not be asking for more than your passport to travel to canada.

to ENTER canada you would need your passport AND COPR to confirm your status in canada, though just swiping the passport technically *should be* sufficient enough. for further confirmation, i would call the cbsa office at the airport you intend to fly into and ask them. i honestly don't see why a COPR wouldn't confirm the same info a pr card would. since you are visa exempt, your passport is all that's needed to seek entry. your COPR or PR card would prove your status to the officer.

i'm confused though... are us citizens allowed to travel to cuba for pleasure now? the last i heard the only way to travel there was as part of a missionary or religious group? you know, that whole embargo thing? i know there was a recent agreement about something...

Actually, I did a lot of research on that last year. The only way an American can 'get away with' going to Cuba, as a tourist, is to fly out of Canada or Mexico ..... and return the same way. And, so far, it's still the same policy.

Hi Rhcohen,

You can go to Cuba for sure because Cubans always welcome Americans to Cuba for holiday. The Cuban tour guide told us about it when my husband and I were there for holiday last year.

It was American government tried to warn country people not to go there but Cuba has never stopped Americans going there. I know some Americans fly to Cuba via Canada.

Hi I forgot to tell you that Cuba customs at airport doesn't put any stamp on your passport in case you get trouble after you go back to US.

Hi finally ECAS shows my PR card is approved on Jan 21st.

I called CIC again two days ago but was told my document was verified by CIC.

Let's see when it will arrive in mail.

Hi Benni, I did read someone got PR card in mail when ECAS had not shown anything.

You can call CIC 1-888-242‑2100, then press 2-3-2-0 according to its automatic guide.

The first time I was told the processing days shown on CIC is for the average but some case takes longer.
The second time I was told my document was verified by CIC.

But you can call and see if you are lucky to be told what's going on. Some applicants got luck finding out by phone call.

Good luck !
