You can use your copy of the COPR for places that require proof of permanent residency (get a SIN number, qualify for health insurance, etc).
Really?! I mainly need it to file for my MCP -- the MCP application requires a photocopy of the PR card. So, can I just photocopy the COPR? I have the signed paper given to me by the officer during the landing.

are there options for what needs to be submitted? in ontario, there are 2 lists of items that will be accepted. a pr card is just 1 option on the list. the landing document (COPR) is also an option, plus photo id (Ie: passport). it will really depend on what the rules are for what the agency wants for proof of identity/status.

I'll double check that. The application itself just states the photocopy of the actual PR card.

I landed on Nov 21 and still no news about the PR card. I exited Canada on 14 Dec as I plan to move to Canada for good in May this year. Really hope it comes through as soon as possible else I have to apply for a PR Travel Document. :(

Same situation here, Landed on the 25th November and still No card , Have been checking the Ecas and it only shows Complete on the permanent resident application, But yesterday when i checked again, it shows another Line for for permanent resident card and it says We received your application for a permanent resident card on November 25, 2014. We started processing your application on January 8, 2015. ,Like really, Did they have to wait a Month before processing it , Cic is unbelievable. What happen to the 33 calendar days ? Does this mean the 33 calendar days start counting from January 8? When i landed it was Just 15 Calendar days. but now current processing time is 33 calendar days .

you can use an immigration document such as copr or record of landing OR pr card..its not mandatory to have pr card.

Thanks Cathy -- still no change on mine.

"Chip" -- I had read that document before:

Immigration document valid for at least one year. (Examp
le: Work Permit; Study Permit; Visitor Permit).

I don't have any of those -- although I do have a Visitor Record given to me last July and good until July 2015. Is that the same?

OR

Permanent Resident Card. (A copy of both the front and back of the card is required.) -- Don't have mine yet. :(

your COPR is an immigration document, and as such can be used in place of a visitor permit record, or work permit. My uncle lives in new foundland, and i confirmed this with him. The people at service canada are trained, and know that COPr can be used in place of PR card, and vice versa for such services.

Your COPR is as good as PR card, Only difference is that You cant fly back to Canada with a COPR. I am from Nigeria and as soon as i landed i went to the US embassy to get american VISA and was giving 10 Years Multiple visa, I drove to the states and came back to Canada with my COPR, the officer only asked if i havent received my Card or know when i will be getting it, i said i dont know , He just said okay welcome home have a safe trip. If i have an emergence travel that i need to go, I will drive my car to the states, Board a plane from the states and go to my destination, and when coming back will fly back to the states. then drive my car back to Canada. Its Simple. Because i have a US visa and can go in and come back to US . I hope i get my PR cardthis month. U can come into Canada in Your vehicle or private car with your COPR anytime anyday

there is a call center for PR cards in Syndey, NS. i'm not sure if the same number as the general call center. if it is, there is an option to talk to the call center in Syndey, NS. i would recommend calling them and inquiring. they were helpful when i called.
