Thank you everyone for the warm welcome; it's so nice to have found a place where we can all relate to one another.

Here is my/our (long) story (short):

I travelled to Negril, JA in January 2009 for a friend's wedding and my husband (to be) was working at the resort I was staying at. We spent a lot of time talking and I thought he was a really nice guy and that was it. He asked me for my phone number and I honestly didn't think he would ever call me. As soon as I returned to Canada and walked through my front door there was a message from him wanting to know if I made it home okay. I returned to Negril in May 2009 to celebrate my birthday and as they say, the rest is history. We got engaged in August 2010, and were married in January 2012, three years to the day we met.

As a side note (incase anyone cares!) I live in Manitoba.

Thanks for sharing Nevaeha - My hubby lives very close to Negril and also met him there. We got married one year ago at a seaside church in his hometown.

Thanks again for making me feel welcome.

I'm in Winnipeg.

Congratulations on your marriage, Halfmoon!

Can anyone tell me what the time frame is to use a visa once Kingston issues it? I know there is an expiry date and if it's not used by a certain time then you would have to start the immigration process/paperwork all over again. I know in most scenarios as soon as the visa is issued our significant others would be on the first plane out of JA!!!!!

and congratulations on yours! It must have been so romantic since Negril is so beautiful and the people are so warm there. It really would be nice to see how the app progresses considering we applied the same month. Which town is he from?

We got married at Beaches Negril surrounded by our family and friends - it was a beautiful day. My husband and his family are from Sheffield. Is your husband near there?

Aww that must have been wonderful and I'm sure it was so beautiful. No he's from Green Island in the opposite direction towards Lucea. Beaches I hear is really nice. We were thinking about getting married by the cliffs but decided to do a traditional wedding at a church. I think one of the most romantic things he did was hiring a horse and carriage as he wanted me to feel like a princess sort of like in those fairy tales. I was amazed and it still amazes me how he's truly my prince charming. But I'm sure we all feel that way about our husbands. :)

I believe one of the most important things during this process is to surround yourself with positive people, those who inspire and give you strength even when you feel down. It is so key. An amazing woman and friend told me today and let me add she is a testimony of an inspiring woman who has a loving husband who respects her like no other "let them be free and allow them to be who they truly are, when you do that they will in turn do and be everything you want them to be for you". That statement couldn't be more true.

The visa is valid until the expiration of the medical certificate or the expiration of the passport, whichever comes first.

I have 2 very good friends that work at that resort. One is a photographer (maybe he did your wedding) and the other is the supervisor of the entertainment team...

My hubby told me he want to pick up his passport with visa in it and drive straight to the airport and catch the plane lol
