My wife sent kvo a email about concerns of the long waiting time this is they respond back to my wife.

Good day,

Thank you for contacting the Migration Section of the Canadian High Commission in Kingston, Jamaica.

Please note that due to measures in response to COVID-19, we have reduced capacity to respond to non-urgent enquiries.

However, we acknowledge receipt of the information you have provided in your email regarding your Family Class permanent residence application. This information has been added to your file.

Additional information for permanent residence applicants:

Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada’s (IRCC’s) ability to review and process applications is being affected by the COVID-19 pandemic. This includes permanent residence applications being processed at the IRCC Migration Office (Visa Office) located at the High Commission of Canada in Kingston, Jamaica.

While we continue to process applications (including priority family class applications) as quickly as we can under the circumstances, we can’t currently estimate any processing times.

General information about how COVID-19 is affecting processing at IRCC’s points of service both in Canada and globally, is found at the following link: https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/immigration-applicants.html

What are the next steps in the processing of my application?

Our office in Kingston, Jamaica is not conducting interviews at this time, either in person or by telephone.

If you are waiting for an interview appointment, or if your interview was cancelled and you are waiting for a new date, we will contact you when an appointment is available. Due to the evolving nature of the current COVID-19 situation, at this time, we are unfortunately unable to advise you when this might be.

As we have many hundreds of applications from members of the family class active in our office, these applications are normally processed in order of application received date.

You will be contacted directly: 1) if anything specific is required from you, 2) if there is any change in the status of your application, and/or 3) if an officer needs more information from you about your situation.

If we do not contact you, it means your application remains in process. If this is the case, we will reach out to you (or, if you are represented, to your authorized representative) when your application reaches the next stage in processing.

Please note that applicants for permanent residence continue to be subject to routine screening requirements, including all security and medical assessments, and must also provide their biometrics as part of the application (unless otherwise exempt).

To learn more about special measures for persons affected by the current COVID-19 situation (for example: situations where clients are unable to undergo a medical examination or provide requested documents by the due date for COVID-19 related reasons), please monitor the following IRCC links for ongoing updates:

Biometrics:

Please note that effective July 6, 2020, Visa Application Centres (VACs) in Jamaica are open (with reduced hours) in both Kingston and in Montego Bay for the collection of biometrics.

For more information about the hours at these VACs, and/or to make an appointment to give your biometrics, please see the following link: https://www.vfsglobal.ca/Canada/Jamaica/

To avoid delays when we are ready to process your application, we recommend that if you a) live in Jamaica, b) have received a BIL, and c) you have not given your biometrics yet, you should make an appointment to do so as soon as possible.

You don’t need a new BIL to make an appointment or give your biometrics. Your original BIL has been automatically extended. You will need to bring your original BIL to your new appointment at the VAC to show proof of payment.

IMPORTANT:

Do NOT to go to a VAC without a biometrics appointment, and remember to bring your BIL when you go for your appointment. Individuals without appointments, and/or who do not have their BIL with them, will not be admitted to the VAC.
