Hey Guys,
What are your pre arrival preparation plans?

For those in regulated professions here (engineers, doctors, nurses) are you working towards getting licensed? What have you done so far?
For those none regulated professions what steps have you taken to make job searching easier?
Let's have a discussion about these things while we wait for PPR.
I hear getting professional jobs is quite difficult even after taking the necessary licensing exams.

Yes it can be.
But licensing affords you the opportunity to apply for jobs that you ordinarily won't be eligible for if you didn't have the license.

I have a question and hopefully some seniors in this forum have some insight... when I email Cpc Ottawa to check my application status, they said my file is in queue for review by officer. And cic agent told me my eligibility is review required when I asked them what me eligibility status is. Most of the other people get the answer either processing, recommended pass or pass. So I’m wondering if there is anything wrong with my application. Is that normal to have eligibility status as that.

To get to know the details of my application, I also ordered a GCMS notes on GCMS buddy on Oct 17, which I haven’t received yet. It makes me really worry since all other people get their notes on time. Did anyone ever seen other people needed to wait this long for the notes?

also, I'm paid by hourly wage, but I put annual salary on my employment letter and offer since the CIC website said "SALARY" is required to be put on employment letter. Not sure if that's gonna cause any problem to my application, or that's the reason my application is review required. I am thinking about to raise a CSE but since I'm not sure if that's the reason, I don't want to cause any extra problem.

If anyone can help me with my question, I'd really appreciate it.
Review required is normal if there is something in your eligibility that the Case agent isn't very sure about and wants an officer to review and make a final decision.
You need your GCMS notes to know the exact reason. You may want to try ordering another set of notes with another GCMS notes service provider since your first set is taking so long. Another option is to just wait things out. The RR usually gets resolved after a while or they'll ask you for additional documents. Just note that it may take some time.

Same

experience I've been having. Apparently they want Canadian experience.
Naah! They want immediate recruitment possibilty, if we had our PR, it would have been a completely different story.

For doctors I see a lot of people going to the UK to become consultant GP's first then moving back to Canada to work as doctors. Word on the street is that as a doctor you might not get to practice in Canada especially due to the fact that getting residency is quite hard.

Sounds like a plan :) I'm a financial communications specialist. I'm signed up on Job Bank and registered on Glassdoor to get alerts. Managed to get one telephonic interview call and one email exchange so far. The interview didn't work out, the HR lady was super polite but did not seem too interested - I couldn't really be sure if PPR or profile fit was the problem. For the next role, which was actually a perfect profile fit, the email exchange was positive to begin with, but lack of PPR threw a spanner in the works there :(
The hubby is a senior relationship manager handling a team for offshore lending at an MNC bank. His prospects look bleaker than mine, THB, as his role is more specialised, so we expect it to be harder to get profiles of choice for him. Let me know if you guys have any ideas how we can improve our job hunt from outside Canada :)
Thanks @tobs for initiating a useful and constructive discussion here instead of lingering on what to expect of CIC.

Good to see 2 people in the financial domain. myself and my spouse are in Credit/Finance and Marketing/Digital/Advertising roles resp. While my wife's work prospect looks good as it is not licensed and most organizations across sectors need people with these skill set.

As for myself, I am leading the credit and risk function for Institutional Lending in one of the NBFC and have past experience in corporate banking in a large Indian Bank and a UK MNC Bank. While I haven't been able to dedicate too much time on research but to the extent I could, I haven't been able to find a real good match till now.

Now we are just waiting to get the PPR after which we would be doing extensive research and apply to companies with a good match of job responsibilities.

Would highly appreciate if someone had any experiences to share for the Credit/Risk Banking roles or Marketing/Advertising roles.

Delay in receiving GCMS notes isn't abnormal. Mine took 70days to arrive and I ordered through GCMSbuddy

For the financial sector ( banking), and for credit and risk management in particular, you will need to be certified. And you can achieve this by writing some certification exams. Please check out the Canadian Securites Courses (there are several certifications, depending on your intended role) and also Credit and Risk Managememt courses are available. Retail bankers are required to have Mutual Funds certification. Some banks would give you conditional employment while waiting for your certification, but that has reduced over time.

I worked in the financial sector before moving to Canada for my Masters degree. Did some research about advancing my career in the banking sector here, though I currently work for a non profit organization.

Not necessarily...I had called IRCC a day before I received the PPR mail and the agent mentioned that everything looked 'very positive' on my application but he was non-committal on anything else I asked him. So hope for the best!!!
But your VO was Ottawa and thus you were lucky. We have Sydney,NS and it is keeping so many approved applications with itself.
