I work as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Alberta. I am on a work permit which is valid until the 20th of June 2012. The work permit was issued based on a Labour Market Opinion (LMO). Now I would like to apply for permanent residence (PR) under the Federal Skilled Worker (FSW) category. I would like to know whether there is any chance for my application to be accepted because my work permit is valid only for 6 more months?
You can apply for the FSW program as a License Practical Nurse (NOC 3233) as it is one of the 29 qualifying occupations without the need of a job offer. However, since you are already working in Canada, you should consider getting a job offer in order to gain additional points for Arranged Employment, with the added benefit that your application will be fast tracked. However, in both these cases, the application process for PR will take more than six months.
One option open to you, then, is to renew your work permit which is commonly done as applicants wait until their PR application is processed. LMO-based work permits can be renewed for up to a four years. Because your work permit is LMO-based, your employer will have to reapply for the LMO, and you will have to go through the same steps of the temporary work permit application process as you did originally to receive the permit.
Having stated all of the above, your most practical path to Canadian permanent residency may be through the Alberta Provincial Nomination Program. Assuming that your employer is willing to offer you a permanent job offer of indeterminate length you will probably qualify for an Alberta Nomination Certificate. As long as you are healthy and are not inadmissible for criminal or security reasons you can expect to receive a Canadian Permanent Resident Visa..

dear ovais can I ask u what ur ecas shows ? RBVO or in process ? Do you think fsw2 has different processing timeline my ecas still shows RBVO! But address got missing since 19 dec!!

my ecas just show 'in process' with a line tht 'we recieved ur application on 24th august 2011'. address is missing since mid december.
n yes i do think tht FSW2 has different timelines n their processing time is a bit longer.

Will it be a problem for me to immigrate to Canada if I have worked at one of the Iranian nuclear sites?
Anyone immigrating to Canada is subject to criminal/security and medical inadmissibility.
Criminal/security inadmissibility is relevant to your question since working in sensitive areas may trigger additional scrutiny by Canada's intelligence agency, possibly in cooperation with international intelligence agencies.
Medical inadmissibility is also relevant to your question since working at a nuclear site will likely mean you will have to be tested for your exposure to radiation. The results could cause you to be inadmissible because you will put excessive demands on Canada's health services..

Yeah. At first I thought immersion was totally unnecessary. After all I only wanted to SPEAK French, not BE French. But I soon realized, as I took my first few tests, that it is one thing to know the words and quite another thing to know when they are used appropriately. Also, I struggled to speak French when my cultural references were all non-French. I won't be able to speak French well if I insist on talking about bistek tagalog (a Filipino dish). It has to be Boeuf Bourguignon, Foie gras.. ;D

i heard about livemocha long back but after my application for PR i looked into livemocha but unfortunately learning french was on chargeable basis which was free earlier......

i felt the same once u keep reading and speaking french u can become familiar with it as a natural.....

by the way can u tell me how to do that google translation....for french.....

Hello guys!

Our office coordinator has informed us that we have a mail from Canada!! Someone will pick it up for us now as we are on vacation... I hope these are the medical forms!! Praise God!!

Thats a gr8 news. And im confident that it'll be Medical forms or MR's (that CHC Visa officer were unable to understand ) ;D

I was not really asking you a question alain, just posted couple of tongue twisters in french....just monkeying around.Looks like I'll have to depend on my kids for my french tuition when they study it as their second language in Canadian school. (me too thinking positive here... )

I'm sure you're tracking your med reports, are they delivered?

Our applications are past 5 months 2 weeks & 6 days...& here I am without MR in sight. Sorry for sounding impatient when I know there are others too who are waiting.

I think I should get rather busy watching settlement Ontario videos to get my mind off thinking about MR.

i can totally realate.... my mind is thinking of MR from d moment i ake up till before i sleep and soemtimes even at sleep. i check ecas 10times a day or more to see if my addss also dosappeared like the rest!!

My med report was forwarded by the DMP to the embassy only yesterday. It's probably going to take a full week before the embassy receives it.

Your category is FSW3, is this different from FSW1.
You have applied is September and still waiting for PER.
Almost all memebers (2121)get PER who have applied in September.
Even there is member Avgeny(2121) 14OCT2011 applicant from Russia has got DD encashment on 23 Dec2011.
