What did you ask exactly? The agent I talked to wouldn't even tell me if my application is routine. I wonder if some agents just have the kindness to give us more info than they are supposed to.

I was really nervous (every time I do something related to immigration I get nervous) - so i took notes of what to ask. The agent was really nice so I basically said this:
Hello I am calling regarding my citizenship application, I would like to know if its non-routine or routine and both my primary and secondary offices please. Is my application assigned to someone? Is my LPP in progress? I would appreciate your kindness, thank you. And she told me don't worry I will give you all the information I can get you, and then she replied everything. Very concisely and nicely, and she asked for my personal information which I confirmed and after she proceeded to give me information :) I hope it works with you this time!

I'm not convinced that they're telling you anything of use when they tell you it's routine or not.

I think all they're doing is saying "has it gone by the estimated # of months, yes or no?" If yes, non-routine. [Note I think they always just use whatever the current # of months is, that posted on the IRCC timeline page.]

In other words, it generally doesn't tell you anything more than whether it's over the estimated timeline or not. I think.

Now, I also hear other stories. It's possible there's a better / more clear definition in IRCC. Even so, to me i doubt the phone agents have enough training or access to the correct info to make that judgment. Unless there's a big red flashing thing saying 'non-routine', and I doubt that.

I am planning to Travel back home India around Oct- Nov but my Citizenship application is stuck at LPP will I be able to fly out on Indian passport and what if they cleared LPP when I am in India and send oath/ceremony why I am outside. Will I have to apply again and re-test ?
My application submitted in Jan last week 2025/.

As you are a Jan end applicant, and as you said, you are at LPP stage, as per the current timelines, you will be thru with the citizenship process before Oct (unless there is any red flag in your application), so no need to worry about oath/re-test, as anyway one can postpone his/her oath even if it comes when the applicant is outside Canada.

There used to be 3 months grace period but now BLS website mentions that you have to surrender indian passport as soon as you acquire foreign citizenship. Link- https://www.blsindia-canada.com/toronto-jurisdiction/surrender-of-india-citizenship.php
As per my understanding, it right to surrender your Indian passport immediately after obtaining foreign citizenship, However there are few relaxations allowed,
1. You are given 3 months grace period in which you can use Indian passport to travel even after obtaining foreign citizenship.
2. You have 3 years to surrender Indian passport but if you use it for travel after 3 months of grace period then there is penalty on it.

But it’s always good to surrender it immediately. Pls read the full instructions on EOI website so finer points and details.

The thing is, an applicant on this thread, who had been waiting for LPP to complete for a while, was told by an agent that their file was complete and was just waiting for someone to update the tracker in the backend. The applicant got LPP done on the tracker shortly after. So clearly, IRCC call agents DO seem to have more detail info on an application; it's just a matter of whether they want to share it with the caller or not.

Sure. But do they have specific information about what 'non-routine' is, beyond "it's taken longer than the estimated timeline?".

That's what I said. I wasn't saying things that I didn't say.

You almost there. Quick question-Does your tracker say citizenship ceremony as Not started or in progress?

Hi there.

It says Not started. But from a google search I am expecting my tracker to change in the next few days if not tomorrow. That email seems to be sent before the tracker updates with a date.

If you call IRCC tomorrow, the phone agent will be able to see your oath date and tell it to you before you see it in the tracker.

Congrats, man! Quick question: what's the agent's name for? She made me write down her exact name on a piece of paper, but I have no idea what it's for!
Yes the same with us. When you send in your oath form, you need to include her name in the subject line, like "Jane - Oath form for [your file number], [your family name]
Assuming Jane is the name of the officer.
