no you can not. Me and my wife tried to apply for ohip after the first stage approval they told her to wait til second stage approval. I know ohip is very important for my wife. I rather have her ohip first work permit later as i work 17 hrs a day and take care of my beloved. We are still waiting for 2nd stage approval. We applied october 24th 2011 got the 1st stage approval august 2012 after that nothing

YES you can! you have been misinformed by whoever you talked to. when you go to service ontario make sure to go to the ones that are government based not the ones that are privatized because most small private ones don't know! all you need is your identifications and proof of your AIP! thats it. as I mentioned to nonoo I've done it myself.
so if your wife is in need you should go get it.

YES you can get it! all you have to do is take your identifications and your AIP letter as proof, and make sure to go to a government based service ontario because some are private and they don't know. they will fill in the forms for health card (ohip) it'll take 3 months to get it from the date of the letter. I've done it myself too. so go to service Ontario and apply!

Thank you very much kitchener_inland OHIP is really very imp for me. The only thing I was a bit confuse of is I haven’t received any letter for first stage approval for myself only my husband received one so my husband think they only allow OHIP if they are content with the medical but since my medical is already expired so they won’t let me avail it till they receive my new medical . please let me know thoughts on this

I am certain kitchener_inland is right as your wife is through with the medical, it must have been the misinterpretation of the person you spoke to because everyone else who passed the stage one received OHIP straightaway.

Nonoo, I got the same request for a 2nd set of medicals and my sponsor and I both received our first stage acceptance letters. I don't think the request for a 2nd medical is relevant to CIC.
I'm from BC though so I've no input on OHIP

Well I didn't mean to make you worry at all. I don't have my CIC documents with me, but I seem to remember that my request for a second medical came on my AIP letter and not my sponsors.
So are you sure you didn't get one addressed to you? I also got my own Client number on that letter. The mailings from CIC don't seem completely consistent, so maybe yours was different.
Calling a lawyer is expensive, but if he has a copy of your letter and that could get you to OHIP that would be very helpful.

Call CIC, they can tell u when the letter was sent out. Don't worry everything will work out. Let us know how it goes

What does your applicant ECAS says ? if it says "in process" then you got AIP I would not worry.
I guess you will get it soon, unless it was sent throught email and got into your spam box.
Medical exam is for stage 2 only and requested when AIP is given, 1st stage is pertaining to the sponsor and the relationship while 2nd stage deals with the backgound, police certificate and medical exam of the applicant itself.

I just hope and pray everything go smooth. Anticipation I haven't read the letters myself my husband took them from the lawyer may be that letter did mention something about my eligibility too. I think I will read the letter myself and let you guys know.

We are pleased advise you that processing of ur application has been completed, The ...office will contact you concerning your PR status.

Can i use this to apply for OHIP, and if it is ok, should i bring pics to the place, which issue OHIP, or just go there with this letter and passport?
Anyone has this experience?

Yes, a DM letter is second stage approval. Anther AIP and Stage 2 simultaneously person.
