Hi everyone,

Not sure if anyone can help with this but if you can, I need your feedback!! We just invited my husbands mom to come for a visit, and we were planning to have her land here beginning of July, so we can go back to cuba with her July 20th. From the CIC website, processing times are 8 days. She just went to the embassy to submit her papers and was told to come back to the embassy July 12th!!?? How does this make sense? From what I've heard, they usually contact you by phone to pick up your visitors visa?? so why would it be so late??

My representative emailed the embassy in Havana two days ago. I am hoping maybe to hear something positive from them. Has anyone on this site emailed the embassy and heard back from them? Thanks

Still no reply from my representative about the update. I am hoping to something soon. Yes, I am hoping that that strike does not affect us at all.

This is what you will find on the cic site when you go to processing times. I believe that this came out some time last week.

Alert – Strike Action

The Professional Association of Foreign Service Officers (PAFSO) union is currently taking strike action. PAFSO union members responsible for processing visa applications have been walking out of offices in Canada and overseas.

Posted processing times for both temporary and permanent resident visa applications do not take into account work stoppages.

Anyone applying for a visa should anticipate delays and submit their application as far in advance as possible.

Contingency plans are already in place to ensure all offices remain open and are providing at least a minimum level of service. Priority will be placed on urgent humanitarian applications.

CIC continues to closely monitor the situation.

Visa offices around the world decided to stop working on applications as they said. Some still remain open with maybe limited people working.

Still, there's people that still got their visa last week, so it's hard to know if Havana decided to completly stop the applications process or if there's
still some work being done. I just hope they won't take several months to end this strike.

Very bad timing for us as our applications are all waiting at the visa Office. at least, we should be the first one to get news
after the strike as they'll surely work on our applications first.

Big question is when they'll resume their work ? very bad to see that a slow process just got even slower and that this stressful process just got
even more stressful. very bad to see that they'll put more stress on us and the delay can cost more to everyone of us.

What if they take several months to end the strike and we have to do the medical again, that means more travel for me to see my wife, more calls, more money transfert..
more and more and more... In the end, we will all pay the price of this strike.

Hi, I saw your question about the medicals possibly running out due to the strike and I wanted to share something about medicals I read on another thread:

**Medical exam validity extension for additional 12 months (new CIC Bulletin) April 2012
There's a new procedure that will allow medical validity to be extended if your application processing is completed within 15 months of the original medical exam and the only thing stopping your application from final approved and PPR is the expiration of your medical results (or ability to reasonably land within the initial year-long validity).

Officers will now be able to submit a request for an extension of the medical exam result validity (as long as they were done within the last 15 months) and they can extend them for an additional 12 months without the need for an additional medical exam. The details are on the CIC website.**

Congratlations LiaJoi !!!! Wish you a healthy baby and all the best to the new family ! Truly hope the dad will be with you very soon. Dont forget to let the Visa Office know that the baby's born !

no, it's not someone that I know that received the visa but people from this board with other Visa Offices. Looks like not all Visa Office are on strike or totally on strike

Once again, all the best to the baby, you and your husband ! Hope you'll all be together very soon
