Got my passport today!
Sharing my timeline for anyone applying:
Shipped on Jan 3rd
Arrived per FedEx on Jan 4th (I used FedEx without issues)
Ceac status changed to application received on Jan 12th
Ceac status changed to approved on Jan 14th
Ceac status changed to issued on Jan 18th
Got an email with tracking information on Jan 19th
Received passport via purolator (had paid for premium delivery) on Jan 20th

One concern I have is that if I go for dropbox but get called for an interview, and then I have an interview pending in say Nov/Dec in that time if I am affected by layoffs and cancel my appointment, does it count as a denied/rejected H1B? I don't want to have that on my immigration record for any future problems getting a visa to travel/work in the US even after Canadian citizenship

Sorry to hear about this. Do you have any details on why you are asked for in-person?
Did you submit copr as proof of residency? I remember someone last year was called in for that reason.
Sorry I have no answers on how to expedite the process, but I am not very worried for my spouse, we plan to submit for dropbox this week

I'm in a similar situation.
Permanent resident in Canada, my wife as well, eligible for Dropbox.
JAN 12 - Application mailed to embassy (Ottawa)
JAN 13 - Mail received
JAN 19 - Status "Application received"
JAN 20 - Status "Refused"
JAN 24 - Mail "interview required - document returned"
JAN 25 - Tracking number received by mail
JAN 26 - Passports and documents received, no 221G included
Appointment for interview April 17 2023.
Consider yourself lucky if you got an appointment today for April 4th. I don't see any more appointment before June 2023 at the moment.
Not sure as well why our application has been refused, only reason received by mail is "interview required".
You can only expedite interview for a bona fide medical or humanitarian emergency.

Unless that's the case for you, you will not qualify for an expedite appointment.

I just updated my comment above.
Process at the US embassy in Ottawa.
I sent a copy of my PR card.
Seeing appointment in June 2023 at the earliest.
I only have access to Ottawa calendar when I check the appointments available.
