When I call ircc number 8882422100
I hear this Automated status message.
We requested Medical exam.
It takes time between when medical gets sent to IRCC and when it is input in the system. This results in a time where it stills says you need to submit a medical but you have recently sent in the medical. Also if there is anything abnormal or anything that came up in the medical that is of concern, applications are sent to be reviewed by an IRCC healthcare staff so that can also lead to longer processing times. It will either result in a request for additional testing or information or will show medical passed.

There is was no need to update your application yourself. The medical will be updated when IRCC evaluates it. You will eventually get a response to your email (could take a few weeks) explaining that medicals need to be sent via the panel physician’s office. It is submitted via the physician’s office to try and ensure people aren’t submitting fraudulent medicals.

The government and the minister has actually not reduced PR targets they just hid the total number behind one time policies. The population data also had to revised and Canada doesn’t actually have a sense of how many people are in Canada because it doesn’t track entry and exit data. The population revisions showed that Canada had been overestimating how many people who had left Canada. Canada also doesn’t have a clear estimate of how many undocumented people are in Canada because Canada’s policy was basically to not take action and deport people without status unless they committed a serious crime. Canada is now removing people without status but it will take a get long time to make up for government inaction for decades. There best estimate when it comes to the amount of people without status in Canada is 500k-1 million. That said if you try to decipher what the minister is saying she is indicating we are likely to see an increase in the quota for economic immigration which also may target certain new sectors like the resource sector (jobs in oil&gas, mining, etc.) and defence related jobs in addition to sectors like healthcare. Economic immigration will still likely prioritize younger people, those with good English and French language scores, etc. Many of the H&C applicants don’t have a pathway to economic immigration or they would already be working towards qualifying for the existing programs. If people have applied for H&C, especially if under 40, they should be working towards qualifying for an economic immigration program and should not count on H&C. The advice to learn French, consider, go back to school (in Canada or abroad), obtain work experience in a profession in demand in Canada (work experience may need to be gained abroad), etc. is unlikely to change after new immigration plan is announced.

It is a public forum. You may find that I am toxic but I am also right most of the time. It appears that your brother applied in mid 2023 and got AIP in 2025 yet still hasn’t received PR. For those who applied after mid 2024 they are going to experience an entirely different situation. The video posted meant that people expected that the quota may be allocated to general H&C when the minister is hinting that there will be a focus on economic immigration programs. I hope that IRCC reforms the H&C system because I think it is unfair and irresponsible to let people apply when processing times are up to 50+ years at this point. Hoping that people leave or get removed is not a way to run the general H&C program. Those applying for the Hong Long and Ukrainian H&C program should also try their best to qualify via economic programs. I also the judicial reviews where most trying to stay removals have active H&C applications. In general I want to stress that people can’t count on H&C and need to be making other plans. People need other plans even if it is not their 1st choice especially if they applied for PR after mid 2024. I also think that many lawyers and consultants are happy to charge people a lot of money to apply for H&C but are not being honest with applicants about the state of H&C and aren’t presenting other more realistic pathways that people should consider. I also know that hospitals are facing huge deficits and that most families would not be able to pay large hospital bills when they don’t have provincial or private insurance. I also have issues with the length of visit on a supervisa because it has given many families the false impression that this is a permanent move and many families are not prepared for their parents to return home and many are now shows when they get visitor extension denials. Many parents also accumulate preexisting conditions each year so many end up with large bills because 100k is not a lot of coverage and many medical emergencies become preexisting conditions so are no longer covered. Hospitals used to be more flexible and be more willing to offer payments plans while that is no longer an option for most hospitals. Many are now asking for upfront payments once care is no longer considered an emergency. I also don’t want seniors to be deported or lose their ability to visit Canada but remaining in Canada without status and applying for H&C has significant consequences. I don’t think that the consequences of H&C applications or remaining in Canada without status is discussed enough. Given the current processing times, PGP being closed and the attempt to reduce the number of temporary residents most H&C applicants will likely end up without status. I hope that everyone is thinking about longterm consequences in Canada and for other countries and I hope that consultants/lawyers are talking about these things with their clients. Sadly I don’t think many are. I hope my posts lead to honest discussions with family or with consultant/lawyers about their H&C application and how long their processing is estimated to take and realistic other options. What would happen if they needed medical care, their plans for education and work if they don’t have status and what would be possible, etc.
