Looking for advice after my mother’s Canada visitor visa was refused due to 1) concerns about the purpose of visit not being consistent with a temporary stay, 2) insufficient financial situation, and 3) not being satisfied that she would leave Canada at the end of her visit.. I’m sharing exact purpose of visit + detailed financials, along with a key comparison that’s confusing me.

  • Age: Late 50s
  • Country: India
  • Occupation: Government employee (mid-level officer role)
  • Monthly net salary: ~₹1 lakh
  • Working since early 1990s (permanent government job)
  • Married

  • Spouse is also a government employee
  • He recently got his Canada visitor visa approved
  • Same purpose of travel, same dates, same itinerary
  • His net worth shown was slightly lower than hers
This is what makes the refusal confusing.

“I plan to visit Canada from August 1 to October 31, 2026 to support my daughter-in-law and son following the birth of their child. During my stay, I will provide family and emotional support, assist with household tasks, and help with newborn care. I will return to India after October 2026 to resume my government employment and attend to my family and property responsibilities, making this a temporary visit.”

  • Annual income: ~₹16 lakh (~CAD 24k)
  • Savings & bank balance: ~₹1.5 crore (~CAD 225k)
  • Immovable property: ~₹3 crore (~CAD 460k)
Total net worth: ~₹4.7 crore (~CAD 700k+)
  • Declared liquid funds in application: CAD 45,000
  • Additional long-term savings also shown

  • Permanent government job
  • Spouse residing in India
  • Property ownership
  • Strong financial and family ties

  • Invitation letter
  • Employer letter
  • CA certificate (net worth)
  • Salary slips + tax returns
  • Proof of funds (bank + long-term savings)
  • Property documents
  • Marriage certificate

  • Purpose of visit not consistent with temporary stay
  • Financial situation insufficient
  • Not satisfied applicant will leave Canada

  • She has stronger financials than her spouse
  • Both have stable government jobs
  • Same travel plan and purpose
Yet:
  • Spouse approved
  • Mother refused for purpose + finances + intent

  1. Could “help with newborn care” be interpreted as unauthorized work?
  2. Why would one spouse be approved and the other refused with similar profiles?
  3. Does IRCC focus more on liquid funds vs total net worth?
  4. Should we reapply with:
    • Different wording of purpose?
    • More liquid funds shown?
    • Stronger leave approval proof?
  5. Any specific fixes that could improve chances on reapplication?
