Hi everyone,
I am preparing a Super Visa application for my mother (I am her biological son) to be submitted now in late 2026. I have a question regarding the document submission strategy for a host with zero income and a co-signing spouse who qualifies for multiple years.
Our household breakdown:
  • Household Size: 5 people total (Me, my wife, our 2 children + my mother as the applicant).
  • Current LICO Requirement: $64,336 for a 5-person household.
  • My Situation (Primary Host): I was unemployed during 2024 and 2025, so my Notices of Assessment (NOAs) for both years show $0.
  • My Wife's Situation (Co-Signer): She has stable income over the last 4 years. Her individual income is $75,000, meaning she comfortably clears the 5-person LICO threshold on her own for both the 2024 and 2025 tax years.
Our Application Plan:
  1. I will be the Primary Host on the invitation letter because I am the biological child.
  2. My wife will join the application as the Financial Co-Signer so we can combine our household income.
  3. We plan to use the 2025 tax year to officially qualify, showing a combined household total of $75,000 ($0 from me + $75,000 from her).
My Questions for the Forum:
  • Since IRCC rules state hosts must meet the income requirement in "either one of the two taxation years preceding the time of application", should we only submit our 2025 NOAs (since we qualify that year)? Or is it safer to submit both 2024 and 2025 NOAs for both of us, since my wife actually clears the threshold for both years?
  • Will my $0 NOA trigger any red flags or an automatic refusal for the year we use to qualify, even though my co-signing spouse's individual income easily covers the entire 5-person household limit by itself?
  • Does the fact that I had zero income for two consecutive years change how the visa officer evaluates our file, or do they strictly look at whether the combined household unit hits the LICO line for the single chosen qualifying year?
I want to make sure I am providing exactly what the visa officer needs without creating unnecessary document clutter. Any insights or past experiences with a similar setup would be greatly appreciated!
Thank you!
