Hello everyone,

I am a permanent resident and I applied for Temporary Resident Visas (visitor visas) for my parents from India. I am trying to understand if anyone has had a similar experience, especially when one of the parents had prior government or police service.

Here is the timeline:

  • Application submitted: November 6, 2025
  • Biometrics completed: November 13, 2025
  • January 26, 2026: IRCC call centre confirmed eligibility and background verification were complete. The representative also noted that the application had passed normal processing time and added a note requesting officer review.
  • February 2, 2026: Additional document request received regarding my father’s previous government police service
  • February 3, 2026: Submitted requested documents
  • February 5, 2026: IRCC confirmed documents were received
  • February 18, 2026: Called IRCC again; they confirmed background verification is complete and the application is now awaiting final decision

Since then, there has been no update.

My wife is pregnant with an expected due date of May 4, 2026, so timing is important. I understand passport stamping in India can take 2–4 weeks after approval.

My questions:

  1. Has anyone received additional document requests due to previous government or police service?
  2. After submitting those documents, how long did it take to receive the final decision?
  3. If IRCC confirms background verification is complete, does that mean approval is likely soon?
  4. Did contacting your MP help in getting a decision faster?

I would really appreciate if anyone could share their timelines or experiences.

Thank you very much.

I also came across a few posts where applicants mentioned that when a parent had prior government or police service, IRCC took longer to process their application due to additional background or security verification. However, in those cases, the applications were for Super Visa.

In my case, I applied for a regular Visitor Visa (TRV), not a Super Visa.

My question is: does prior government service cause similar delays for Visitor Visa applications as well, or is this more common with Super Visa applications? If anyone has experienced this specifically for a Visitor Visa, I would really appreciate it if you could share your timeline and outcome.

Can impact any application to come to Canada. There is no timeframe for these extra background information requests. They are fairly rare for visitors.

Thank you very much.

Your processing is not actually that long. Any additional document request adds time but there isn’t a fixed amount of time. MP will be given similar information as you have already received.
