the sponsor would only have permission if the applicant signed the "use of representative form" and indicated the sponsor as a representative. CIC will notify the APPLICANT about their application, just like only the sponsor received notification about theirs. If the applicant wants to know if the information was attached to their application, then yes, i believe they need to be the ones to enquire.

Well, that's not entirely true. My husband didn't fill out that for me, and I was always the one to inquire to Ottawa about our app. I included both our UCI/File number/Birthdates/Addresses and always signed it as Mr and Mrs Zarilenth and they always answered me!

my guess is this is the reason they responded, and the response was probably still directed to the applicant, not the sponsor? if both the applicant AND sponsor send an inquiry, then yes, CIC will release information for the applicant - since technically they are requesting the info along with the sponsor. If JUST the sponsor sends an inquiry about the applicant, i don't see CIC giving out that info without the sponsor being specified as a representative. There is a difference between "we want to know what's going on with one of our applications" and "i want to know what's going on with my husband's/wife's application".

Hmmm I guess I just assumed I could get information since I'm his wife. I included only his information with the email, but signed it from both of us. I don't want to send too many emails about the same thing, but I also want to cover all the bases.

well now that's interesting. was it sent from the email address specified by the applicant? perhaps they are filtering the information based on the email?

OR... maybe it is just a standard line that suggests any response will be sent to the Applicant directly to the email in their application, and if you are not the applicant, the response will not go to you.

I sent it from my Gmail, which I indicated on my sponsor forms. I received AOR and SA to that account. But he listed a different email on his applicant forms, which is how they got in touch with him about the additional documents request.

the auto-reply says this:

"If this is a request for case specific information the responsibility placed on us by the Privacy Act to protect all personal information precludes us from responding using e-mail unless we are able to verify that you are entitled/authorized to receive the case specific information. If you are not the applicant or you are not authorized to receive the information, you will not receive a further reply to your e-mail."

so it seems they don't recognize your email as an approved email for the APPLICANT. Perhaps they just need to confirm you are actually the sponsor, and if they can respond to you, they will. otherwise, the response will go to the applicant. i believe that's all that really means. It's protecting CIC's butt in case the request was from someone not involved in the application.

With only 9 days left before the deadline they gave us to get those pictures in, I think I'll get him to send an email off just in case they won't answer me without filling out the representative form. I need a drink.

Someone crashed into our beautiful car yesterday. Guh -.-

Can I please have some good news? The only thing that can make me happy now is decision made.

Well that's what I mean! I sent the email (as the sponsor) about our application in Ottawa. I just emailed asking if they received the extra documents we sent in, and they replied that they had. They had my email as the sponsors email, and my hubby didn't put me as his representative.
