I never received my first card yet, I spend so far 41 days in Canada , I became PR on March 9th 2014
Hello CA PR SEEKER,

I have been in a similar situation. I went back to US 3 days after my first landing without applying for the PR card. I returned to Canada after 18 months, and applied for the PR card 3 months later. My PR application become non-routine and took about six months to get the PR card. However, they issued a PR card that was valid for five years from the date of issue. Based on my experience, I would say the following:

1)Good news first, your Permanent Residence status is intact as of now(You know that already, don't you?)
2)You PR card application might end being a non-routine one, so expect some delays in processing
3)At some point this year, you will be issued a PR card that is valid till 2022.

Now comes the most important point that you should keep in mind, make sure you have 730 days of physical presence in Canada till 9th March 2019.
If you end up having less than two years of physical presence in Canada during the period 9th March 2014 to 9th March 2019, you might lose your PR status on the 9th of March 2019. Nobody is going to ask you to leave at that point, but when you try renew the PR card in 2022 or apply for citizenship in 2020 you might run into issues....

Can we apply for Citizenship if eligible even if PR card is expired or is under renewal process?

PR card is just a means of travel. You keep your PR status regardless if your PR card expired or not. So yes you definitely can apply for citizenship if your card expired is is under review.

But you need to make sure that you really have the minimum required number of days to apply for citizenship otherwise your application will take years

Thanks Saga, one more question please
I need your advice please, i applied under EE program and have done my landing last year i.e. 2016 July 14th. I became PR holder on 14th July itself and stayed in Canada until 20th December. So for year 2016 I have accumulated 160 days. Short landing I can say.
My Question is: Now from 21st December 2016 I am outside of Canada working in KSA, and will go forever only in year 2019 1st January. So days absent from Canada will be 740
Number of days physically present per calendar year:
2016 161
2017 0
2018 0
2019 365
2020 366
2021 232

I understand that I will still meet PR residency requirements and will be able to renew my PR card and later on apply for citizenship. When ask at the airport if needed I can explain to the officer that I have 160 days already under my belt and can achieve another 365+365+232 from now on until I need to apply for my renewal.
YEAR 2016 = 160 DAYS
YEAR 2019 = 365 DAYS
YEAR 2020 = 365 DAYS
YEAR 2021 = 232 *** NOTE my PR card expires on 21st Aug-2021

Your advice will be very help full.
Thanks

Saga: So as per your explanation we can apply for citizenship if we meet the criteria of 1460 days out of 6 years, then if we have passport then PR card is no use then why we need one ::)

Once you have the Citizenship then you don't need the PR card. But until then, you need the PR card.

Hi guys,

I would like to ask you help... One month ago I sent a request to CIC for an ATIP file regarding my process of pr card renewal. Today I received a .pdf file with a total of 34 pages (the first 16 pages concerning the application for pr card and the last 18 pages concerning the application for PRTD submitted in Brazil).

- My file was never sent to local office (Montreal);
- Updated Date: 18/01/2017 06:57:54
- App Status: Open;
- App Status Reason: In Progress-CP;

- Type: Residency Obligation;
- Status: Passed 18/01/2017 06:56:31

- Document Issuance: 1;
- Created date: 18/01/2017 06:57:53;
- Updated date: 21/01/2017 05:33:10;
- Document Type: Permanent Resident Card;
- Print Status: Errors at Card Production;
- Valid To: 18/01/2022

There are four notes at the end of the document:

- Note 1:
- Updated Date: 20/05/2016 07:13:56
- Text: Client declared 924 days absent on 25MAR2016. File referred to review team DK/PRC/T1.

- Note 2:
- Updated Date: 27/05/2016 05:09:16
- Text: Application has been referred to the review team.

- Note 3:
- Updated Date: 15/01/2017 06:20:26
- Text: File referred to TEMA 1. French file.

- Note 4:
- Updated Date: 18/01/2017 06:55:30
- Text: File reviewed with passport pages. Positive PRD overseas 16AUG2016. Client appears to meet residency. Card requested. SB/PRC/T1.

Two questions: In spite of the "In progress", it seems that a request for producing my card has been sent on 18JAN2017. There were "errors at card production" on 21JAN2017. Was my application approved? Is there a possibility of a new review after approval? Looks like my file is on hold after "errors at card production"... 2 months ago.

Any hint will be very welcome to helping me understand all these information.

Thanks!!!

Hi MatQue...the positive residence determination seems positive. Maybe there is an issue with your photo? Perhaps that's what the 'error' in production might be. You may want to call up IRCC on Monday to get clarification on this.

Best of luck!

Hi newcanuck1234, thanks for your response. I don't think it's an issue with my photo, because in the file that I received it's written:

PHOTO:
Issue Date: 2016/04/26
Expiry Date: 2017/04/26
Errors: 0

I can't call IRCC because I'm outside Canada. Is there a number that is not 1888???

Thanks

Hi newcanuck1234 and all the other fellows in here,

I just called CIC from overseas (Brazil) and was told that my card was sent today to my address in Montreal!!! SO HAPPY! But the status on e-cas is still the same.

The agent told me that the problem with card production was due to my name being miswritten.

How long do you guys think it will take to get in my mailbox???

SO RELIEVED! I would like to thank you guys for the support.

It took 4 days to get delivered for me. I'm in Ottawa so I would guess around the same time for you.

Many congratulations MatQue!

It took 4 days for the PR cards to arrive in our case as well. We are in Toronto.
