Need your advice.

What if the wife gets pregnant after landing papers have come?

What are the best options available? Should we immediately leave for our first landing & deliver baby in canada or deliver baby here in dubai( but we lose the instant Canadian citizenship for our baby).

If we leave immediately, will the insurance company in canada cover the pregnancy expenses for 3 months & after that will the delivery expenses be covered under federal medical benefits or will they reject it as a pre condition?

if ur wife is in good health, then dont wait , insurance charges r not issue, chk with uae insurance, out of country pregnancy covered, u shd claim expenss from dubai. If not still leave dxb immidietly and after landing come back.

Most UAE health insurance policies (except the ones with high premiums) don't cover out of country delivery for countries that grant citizenship by birth (e.g. USA, Canada).

Hi proby,

You won't only loose instant Canadian citizenship, your child cannot inherit your PR. If the child is born outside Canada, you must start a sponsorship application for the child (and there is no way to expedite this application). This is why parents who will not be able to travel before child birth are advised not to complete their landing and send back their COPR, till the time the child is added to current application.

You will not be ineligible for insurance solely based on the fact that your wife is already pregnant. If your baby is due before 3 months and cost of delivery is an issue for you, you could consider landing in one of the provinces that do not have a 3 month wait period for health insurance.

We got our by mail in 1 week approx 5 business days - havent checked recently but I think it says 10-15 business days on the official website

Hi Qt

Not sure on this one. As far as I know you should declare all medicines as some medicines easily available worldwide are sometimes prohibited in Canada.
One thing I am sure about is that if any of the medicines contain narcotics you could get into serious trouble.
Also prescription medicines upto 90 days is fine
You should go through the CBSA.gov website thoroughly before you decide.Search for medicines and read the articles or better still write to the CBSA and they should be able to clarify
