Hi forum,

I know it may sound like a stupid question, but does the gender of principal applicant affect processing time?
Someone I know believes it's slower for male???
But coincidentally, all my co workers who got their pr in 12 months (4 ppl) are women. But it took more than 12 months for guys (3 ppl).
I know it sounds stupid but any thought??

Here's the only reason I think gender might affect processing time - women generally change their names after marriage. So the background/criminal check would require 2 names searches, which could theoretically add some time (but I doubt this).

I am pretty sure the CIC isn't discriminating against people by gender.

He said that the cases of female co-workers were processed faster. :)
But I agree, with your last statement.

Yeah, there are so many variables that affect processing times, I think it would be reckless to pigeonhole gender as the culprit. And that's without taking into account the fact that there's a strike going on lol

Exactly. And even if applications by female applicants would be processed faster,
I'm not gonna change my gender to have my application processed a little quicker. Haha.

BTW am I the only one seeing all emoticons blurred these days? Oo

Hope that's my case :D

But I highly doubt gender affects processing times. I think what happened to your co-workers is just coincidence. Lots of factors come into it: places they've been to, their NOC code, how fast they submit medicals, etc etc etc.

But maybe immigration is looking for more female skilled workers? To make male:female ratio more even? Because I think a lot of guys apply for PR in Canada. But that's just my guess. Don't think overall gender has any impact.

If you are male and from middle-east. Your background and security check may take longer. That's an inductive reasoning.

For sure!! Thank god I'm male from Germany. Shouldn't be a long process to get the background check for
my name done. Haha

I really dont think gender will affect anything either.
I was only asking because he strongly believed in that.
Just checking.

To some degree, gender and name, does affect the processing time. Like lvladman mentioned,
the background check for male guys from the middle-east might take longer, as most
of the names are the same.

Apparently I and my co workers are not the case.

Welcome to my world!

Doesn't help that my country hasn't had a stable government in 3 years.

Oh well...all these delays with my (and other people's) applications...

I'm hedging my bets by tossing some grad school applications around. If I can't be here as a permanent resident, I'll stay here a a student, get another PGWP and just extend things as much as possible before taking another stab at PR. Hopefully by 2018 the PAFSO strike will have ended lol
