Hello there,

I hope that i can find an answer for my sister situation here:

My sister had landed in canada and got her PR card in july 2006. In December 2008 she left canada and went back home and got married(the Husband is not canadian citizen or permanent resident). she never came back to canada after December 2008 andf her PR card expired ofcourse july 2011, now she want to come back. my questions are does she have a chance to get travel documents to come to canada and renew her PR? did she lose her PR since she is more than 3 years outside canada plus PR expired more than year. did she lose her permanent resident status?

Thank you waiting for an answer

Your sister didn't meet the PR residency requirement. And the sad part, she is outside Canada when her PR card expired.

Thank you for you r reply i really appreciate it. even though she spent 2 years out of five years in canada, she still does not meet because her pr expired for year now? and when it expired she is outside canada?

So do you think it is worth it if she applied for travel documents or there is no hope?

Thank you

The residence requirement is two years out of every five rolling years. This means that if she counts back five years from today - she must have spent two out of those past 5 years in Canada. Based on that, she doesn't meet residency requirements for maintaining PR.

Having said that, she can always try to apply for a travel document and see what happens.

you can still go for travel document or at least try. at the worst they will say no. but if she gets it it's good. so why not to try atleast.
