Hi everyone,
I need advice from anyone who has dealt with an urgent Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) through a Visa Application Centre (VAC) in Germany.
My friend is a newly approved Canadian permanent resident traveling in Europe with an eCOPR, but no physical PR card yet. She has a flight back to Canada from Frankfurt on Tuesday, September 1st at 3:00 PM. She does not have a US visa, so crossing the land border via the US is not an option.
We are stuck on when to submit her urgent PRTD application online:
1. Applying now (or on Tuesday, Aug 25 - 5 business days early) risks IRCC denying the urgency request because it is outside the strict 5-calendar-day rule, pushing her into the standard 1-to-2 month queue.
2. Waiting until Thursday, Aug 27 (5 calendar days early) satisfies the rule, but the German VAC (Düsseldorf) is closed over the weekend (Aug 29–30). That leaves only two business days to process, print, and return her passport sticker before a Tuesday flight.
Has anyone applied slightly outside the 5-day window with an explanation and had urgency approved? How fast is the Düsseldorf or Berlin VAC turning around passport stamping right now?
Any advice or recent experience would be greatly appreciated.
