My pr expired a year ago and I haven’t met residency requirements but my spouse just got Canadian citizenship and we would like to apply for my pr through her sponsorship. What’s the process for this? Should I first apply for prtd and if it gets rejected they revoke my pr? Then apply for a new pr through my wife? Or I can submit a new pr application and somewhere in the application i can indicate about my expired pr? There aren’t clear instructions on this scenario. Experts please advise

Your PR is not expired, which is why you cannot re-apply for PR until it gets revoked or you renounce it.

If you apply for PRTD with H&C reasons, processing time can be very lengthy, so if you intend to return to Canada soon, this may not be the best way.

You could try entering via a US land border, and if you do not get reported, you can remain in the country until you meet RO again, then apply for a new PR card.

Alternatively, you can voluntarily renounce your PR and then go the sponsorship route.
