I personally don't know what to do with my cars if i get PPR

There are 3 of us will be moving to Canada (Wife, Me and 5 year old)
i have 2010 venza bought for cash couple years back
and i have 09 acura tl that i owe 8K

Possible scenarios:

1: Sell both cars, rent SUV, hook up U haul trailer and drive to Canada (buy new car in Canada)
2: Sell Acura, import Venza, tow U Haul trailer with Venza
3: Sell both cars, rent U haul 10 foot truck and just drive to Canada(not sure about car seat for my daughter there)

I honestly want to have new car, but not willing to drop extra cash for it when i get to Canada, plus i will not have any credit history there, so there are slim chance of getting a car loan even if i do huge downpayment.

Any input on this ? Aren't we all in the same boat kind of ?? :)))

Which province are you going to? I've been told taking a car across the border is difficult especially if going to BC. Also keep in mind most banks have a "newcomers to Canada" programs that help you get a car with without Canadian credit history.

I plan on selling my car and getting a cheap one in BC (or live near the SkyTrain lol). I know someone who took a car from Toronto to Vancouver and was forced to get a new one because BC wouldn't approve it.

This sounds right... It somewhat depends on the province you are going to.

Plus, we have not make sure that the car doesnt have any recalls and it is listed in Canada's approved cars.

I recommend reading this

For NB, I heard we can save taxes on buying car if we import the one we have... Just need to get winter tires though. Wil have to do some calculations once I receive PPR.

I guess u have to process the import of car before that.

U got to do some research on that, some fees/taxes.

Or u r talking about one way rental?

No not one way rental. Driving my own personal car. Wow.. you guys gave some very useful info. Good stuffs to think about.. Thanks all.. : ;D

It's quite an interesting read. What can you infer is the approximate total cost of doing this? And we have to get export permit from US Customs too right?

I have not started calculating anything yet.... I have 2016 car and would not like to simply lose 5-10k and sell it to get a new one there in Canada.

So most probably I will keep it... As long as I receive PR before my H1b extension is over. If not, I have to get a new one there in Canada. The costs dont change much and yes banks like TD and RBC have packages for newcomers where they help u get the car loan...

But common sense says u need to have a stable job before any company can give u a loan. In my industry, if I dont have car, difficult to get the job.

I will manage all that, someone please help me get my medicals and bg process going...

For those of you that have called CIC from US, when is the best time to call? I have been calling for the past two weeks and I am never able to talk to an agent.

Has anyone used the IRCC Webform to make an enquiry before? Did they reply?

Day 69 for me and no medicals passed!

72 days ! No Updates

They seem to reply via Webform rather quickly (within a few days). When I called and actually got a live person, it was around 10-11am Ottawa time.

Ok. Thanks. I got a quick reply when I enquired via webform. File is still at CIO not yet in Ottawa. At what stage do they transfer the file to visa office? After accessing medicals?
