I think that's the situation for a lot of people (hubby and I are in this situation) I know exactly how you feel. Very soon you guys will be together! Good for you to be smart about money!

Certainly I look forward to being back, and I do hope it is soon, same to you :) A handful of times one or both of us just wanted to drop everything and bring me up there to stay while the PR processes..but in the end we know that's just not feasible, so we wait.

Then how fortunate it is for them to experience the luxury. Everyone's situation is different.

I am in the same situation as you. We're young, my husband is a full time student and we can't afford for me to stay in Canada as a visitor while we wait for PR. I have to stay home and work, but I wish I could wait it out with him.

Hopefully it'll all be over soon, we can just hope Ottawa kicks it into high gear before the Holidays.

Congratulations ChellyCat!!! I am so excited for you:) We all know how hard it is to be in a long distance relationship. My hubby and I have been apart 4 years & 4 months. Can't wait for the light at the end of our tunnel too.
I am fortunate that I'm not long distance- I have been living in Canada for 2 years on a student holiday working visa then when that expired, switched to a visitor visa. But not being able to work definitely put a lot of strain on our relationship (not to mention my self-esteem), so I fully understand those of you who stayed back in the US or whatever country you're from to continue working. Like someone else said, not everyone is able to wait it out in Canada. Everyone is different. :)

Hi everyone,

I am a Canadian Citizen sponsoring my common-law spouse who is a permanent resident of the US. Our time line is as follows:

Application sent: May 24, 2015
AOR1: June 29, 2015
SA: July 26, 2015
IP: August 4, 2015
Meds: upfront in January 2015.

I have not received any requests for further documents and I am a little worried that we have been put into the IP stack too quickly and perhaps things may have been overlooked. I am seeing that most applicants are requested to provide further documentation. Should I be worried that we haven't? We also have not received that third line in our eCas that says Medicals Received.

So I just called the call centre to see if he could give me any more info on my DM, he told me it's an approval and they mailed COPR on Friday!! It's sent by regular mail so could take up to two weeks he said, but I'm hoping for shorter than that since it's just going from Ottawa to Mississauga. He seemed shocked when I said I had a DM and I "only" applied in February. But idk, 8 months seems normal to me considering it's a straightforward US app. So yeah, keep hanging in there everyone!! Ottawa is moving!

Hi angipangy,

You're not alone. Many people who submitted applications in late May, as well as June and July were moved to IP in early August, however there's been no movement on their applications.

There's been a rather long dialogue among the forums if IP really means IP anymore. So many people received it who submitted their applications much later than those who currently are seeing their applications go from received to IP, and then seeing DM a few weeks after.

General consensus: IP for those in late May and beyond who saw IP prematurely are not the traditional marker for the CIC actually sitting down to look at your application. It likely means that your case is open and sitting in their offices somewhere.

(If you were to look at the 2015 spreadsheet, there's an obvious anomaly where a huge section is just IP whereas it's no where to be seen in earlier months.)

I'd suspect your application has a 1-4 months before someone has it in front of them and before you get the email for additional document requests. There are always exceptions to the rule and those who get processed faster, but the likelyhood that the CIC jumped over February-April applicants and started looking at May applications is rather rare.

Silver lining: you should be a-okay with your forms.

If you want to see if your medicals were received, you can order GCMS case notes (that take approximately a month), and they will state whether or not the medical was received with your application as well as whether or not they've started processing thinks like your background check, eligibility, etc. ECAS seems to be inaccurate more times than it's accurate nowadays . . .

Hope this helps! ;)

Happy to hear you got good news!

I would hesitate saying 8 months is normal for a US applicant, we are almost at 11 months and still no DM and we are a straightforward US app. Our lawyer originally said they thought we would get a DM in August (which would have been 9 months) so up until the last few weeks we were pretty hopeful that the 8 month thing was true. I think assigning the term "normal" to anything when it comes to immigration is a stretch lol.

I hope we will be sharing similar news soon, my husband and I are lucky to be together through this, but financially it is killing us.

Ugh 11 months? Sorry to hear that :( I don't understand why they jump around like that. If an app has no red flags or issues, they really should all be done in the order of receipt. No one should be "left behind."

It is definitely rough financially. I'm going for a SIN the second I land and starting the job hunt immediately.

What is the best way to go about calling the call center anyway? I see different people post different things on how they ask questions, what number they call, etc.
