PHILADELPHIA?!?! Hubby and I are IN LOVE with the city! We went there for a Flyers game, front row, and I fell in love with hockey from that point on!! What a beautiful city!! Your day will come and it will come soon! But I can certainly understand your frustrations! At least, for the time being, Hubby and I only have ourselves to worry about (and in-laws) but no children.....yet So, I can imagine.

We received PPR on May 14th and we were planning a trip back to Ohio to visit my family this past last weekend of May. I waiting until May 21st or 22nd and sent an email stating something along the lines of "I received my PPR on ____ and you have received scanned images, as requested. What is the average processing time from PPR to issuance of COPR. We are planning a trip on ______ and were hoping we might have COPR in hand and land on way back into Canada. We have been in process since ________. Your consideration is greatly appreciated"

I know this sounds crazy, but my thinking is that sending this email helped- even a little bit. The next day (Thursday) I noticed that my Canadian address showed up in ecas. Friday we went out of town....Monday crossed back into Canada. I stopped at the Imm. office inside and one of the friendly officers there notified me that I was already approved and COPR was in the mail. It could be coincidence, sure. I can't see any officer "going out of their way" to appease any of us applicants. However, it could be that their review of the email pointed out that they had everything they needed, all I was waiting for was COPR, why not complete this application sooner than later and get it "off the table". I don't know. Sometimes, there's no rhyme or reason. Perhaps, you can try doing something similar.

Anyway, I'm sure yours will come any day now, as well! Just keep staying positive and thinking "Any day now"....I, too, did that for the last year and somehow I survived Please do keep us posted and let us know as soon as you hear something so we can all do a happy dance with you

I'm from Ohio too. My mom is from Swathmore PA. Her dad lives in Philly. My only memories involve the garbage strike in the late 80's.

I don't remember the garbage strike of the 80's...though, I would have been younger than 10 yrs old at that time. I'm from a suburb 20 minutes outside of Cleveland. We're practically neighbors amikety

Now it came to my attention that I missed #4 question on http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/pdf/kits/forms/IMM0008DEPENU.pdf where I had to indicate the immigration office requested for this application. I am assuming I was supposed to write CPP-Ottawa, but I just skipped it (no idea why it didn't even come up when I validated the form). Does it really matter? Will they assign it automatically based on all the documents? Thank you!

It won't matter. They'll choose whatever office they want anyway. It will most likely be Ottawa, some people have theirs transferred to LA but I haven't actually seen much of that lately.

Update :

Got a call from CPP- Ottawa and they asked few basic questions ..
1) How long i have been married
2) How soon you can move to canada?
3) what are your plans once i move to canada?? To look for job

i answered all the questions, he said " Thank YOU".. i asked him a question? " How long i should wait for the outcome of the application?" ! He laughed and said you will hear from us .

After 2 hours i got an email for PPR . So, Ivanp/amikety - Please update the status on the SS.

Ecas got updated to "In Process" last night. hope to receive COPR before medical expiration date (June 15,2013).

Yeah... My medicals expire on the 18th... We were hoping to move first or second week in June... Been "in process" since Feb 19th... They asked for the RPRF, we paid it and sent in the receipt the next day... NOTHING so far. But I may be having a slightly different experience since I didn't pay my RPRF upfront.

My attorney is STILL trying to convince me that that was NOT a stupid move...

OK, so today I'm on my pity party. I managed to keep it a secret from my husband for 2 months that I was coming to visit last Friday. He was in tears when my daughter and I stepped out of his parents' car! But yesterday was "hump day", and I'm heading home (or whatever I call it now) on Monday to a stressful job and 3 weeks to pack up before they sell my condo. Does this process seriously have to take so long? I'm beginning to have some serious logistics problems, wake up, Ottawa! Ivan, I don't know how you do it...

Philly has a lot going for it, but it also has a lot of problems when you live in it. Most of the public schools are crap (my kids are in one of only two or three halfway decent public schools in the city), there's a ton of poverty and illiteracy (on a scale that you'll never find in the "socialist" western European countries that Americans ignorantly like to feel superior to), a lot of racial disparity in wealth and education, the air pollution is pretty bad, water quality not great, etc. But there's undeniably a lot of culture, some great higher educational institutions, and a lot of history, and the beaches in New Jersey are just over an hour away. I don't regret living here for the past 9 years, but ready to move on.

Speaking of garbage, we just got a $50 fine from the city claiming we put our garbage out early sometime in April... To contest it, we have to go to a hearing. But they'll have to sue me in Canada if they want to collect on that one!

I did my undergrad at Oberlin, so spent a little bit of time in Cleveland in the 1990s. Did a lot of biking in the area, and some sailing on the lake, too.
