When to expect in process?

Should we not expect "In Process" status until we have already had PPR? Is that correct?

I think it really just depends on the officer. I didn't get "In Process" at all I just got DM and yes that was after my PPR (which I got October 2nd). But I know a few people on here have gotten IP and I think it typically is after PPR if they didn't send everything in all together.

i did not get in process until AFTER i sent in ppr. generally, for ottawa, the application goes in process once they have everything they need to issue the visa.

Oh this is good news! They should be starting August apps soon. Did you get PPR at all? Or it just went into "in progress"?

It just went to in process, no PPR. I'm from the USA though and am visa exempt and no name change at all so I didn't expect one.

I have read through these forums a lot over the last year, but a question just came to mind. Has anyone ever seen their status go to "in process" and then had a request for more documents?

Oh that's great to hear! I filed mine July 15 and was received July 17. Hopefully the visa officer handling my case just forgot to update my ECAS and I'll just get a wonderful update from them soonest!

For those of you in this thread the COPR finally made it to my family's home in PA and I'll be landing on my way back up here after spending New Year's with my family. So my landing day will be January 4th, 2015.

I was given until Febuary 17th to land (so they extended my medical by 2 months).

So in my typical OCD fashion, I was glancing through some of what takes place when landing, concerning goods and money. One thing I noticed is that you have to declare if you're carrying more than 10K on you, whether it's in stocks, cash, checks etc. There was no reference as to whether you've left the money in a cross border bank account to wire transfer as needed at a later date. I'm assuming with wire transfers the government is able to track these transfers. So, then you don't need to declare money you've left behind in other accounts?

I wish the CBSA gave more insight as to how new settlers should handle discloser of foreign accounts. Unless they already did and I missed it.

Thanks for any insights from those who've landed or read deeper than I have.

I think it's only if the money is ON you when you cross the border. this is the standard requirement for any traveler, not just a landing pr. I was never asked about bank account balances when landing. if you plan to transfer your money to a Canadian account, and it's more than 10,000 you'll need to do all that IRS reporting (FBAR and/or FATCA). I am sure the canadian banks will be noting the transfer and will also be reporting it based on their requirements - CBSA has nothing to do with this. when entering, CBSA is concerned about what you have ON you at the time of entry, not what you have left at home. I don't even think you need to list any money you plan to bring at a later date on your goods to follow form, only "goods" (B4).

Thats what I was thinking. It seems they only care about the amount on you for terrorism funding/ money laundering purposes. Thanks! :D

Trying to figure out the whole cross border money situation is tough. I have read in many places the worst thing you can do is completely "close up shop" as an expat. It's recommended to maintain an address, even if it's one those $10 a month mail forwarding services. To keep a bank account open with a little activity and to maintain a few American credit cards.
