Hi everyone,

I’m planning a relocation from Canada to the UAE soon and I’m trying to figure out whether it’s worth taking my car with me. I’ve been researching Car shipping From Canada to UAE, but I’d really appreciate hearing from anyone who has actually done it.

From what I understand, most vehicles are shipped by container shipping or RoRo (Roll-on/Roll-off) through major Canadian ports like Vancouver or Montreal. Transit time seems to be around 4–6 weeks depending on the shipping route and customs processing.

Things I’m trying to understand

For those who have shipped a vehicle to the UAE:

  • Was it worth shipping the car instead of selling it in Canada?
  • What was the total cost including freight, customs, and port charges?
  • How complicated was the customs clearance process in Dubai or other UAE ports?
  • Were there any vehicle compliance or inspection requirements?

Import rules in the UAE

Some information I found online says that when importing a vehicle into the UAE, the following may apply:

  • Around 5% customs duty
  • 5% VAT
  • Vehicle inspection and registration requirements
  • Port handling and documentation fees

Looking for recommendations

If anyone here has experience with Car shipping From Canada to UAE, I would really appreciate your advice on:

  • Reliable international shipping companies
  • Estimated shipping timelines
  • Any unexpected costs or paperwork issues

Relocating internationally already has a lot of moving parts, so hearing real experiences would really help me make a decision.

Thanks in advance for any insights!

Why UAE? Most travellers are trying to leave there lately.
