Yes, I know I know, why start a new thread, there already are so many. :)
However, I feared that this FAQ would get lost if I posted it as a reply in one of the other threads.

I started an FAQ.

Note: I am posting the original version of the FAQ here but the Forum won't allow me to update the post after some hours (one can only edit posts in the first hours). So please check the current version of the FAQ on these two webpages:

FAQ

What should I worry about?

  • Double check the document checklist. Triple check the document checklist. Make sure you forgot no required document.
  • Make sure you sign both your application and the printout of the residency calculator.
  • Do not leave any gaps in your history. Not even a single day. It is fine if periods overlap. You can be both a student and a part-time employee. But make sure you don't leave a gap. Put “unemployed” or “housewife/househusband” etc.

Question 12(a): I am sending my application in 2017, do I have to list 2017 as a tax year in the application?
No, because obviously no one could file a tax return for 2017 yet. Only list 2016, 2015, 2014, …

.

Hello again Spyfy,
I am not sure if this has changed from the previous law (C24). The filling of taxes is it the immediate last 3 years before signing the application or 3 years within the last 5 years?
As I have been away for a substantial duration (1.5 years) from 2013 to 2015 due to school abroad. I have missed 1 taxation year for 2014, I believe. A brief overview is like this:

2012 - required to file - FILED
2013 - required to file - FILED
2014 - not required to file (due to school and unemployed) - DID NOT FILE
2015 - Required to file - FILED
2016 - required to file - FILED

One of our forum members has replied before to a similar inquiry and from what I can remember, he suggested to do a late filing of tax for the said year. I am not sure if this has changed with C6.

Thanks again,
other forum members are welcome to answer as well

You are ok. it doesn't have to be last three years. in fact if you weren't required to file you are absolutely ok.

@spyfy. In question 11. Regarding were you were physically located. I put my physical address as opposed to my office address. I submitted my application already, do you think my app would be returned because of this?

THanks, you are a Super.
I have been reading lots of thread, some rushed the application, some are patiently waiting a bit.
I do hope hiccups with all the IRCC systems get fix.

Can't tell, sorry. But don't freak out about it too much. It's just a detail.

I forgot to ask,
Is it required to file a tax if you have a balance owing to CRA from the previous year? Say had a balance in 2013, carried over to 2014 and was unemployed and a student ( settled/ paid in later year, 2015)

Hello Folks,

I flown to US for 4 days in Nov 2015. I can't find that stamp on my Passport. Is it possible? However stamps from other 3 trips are there on passport. Any suggestion? Thanks

Yes, stamps mess up 'can' happen (not sure you can do anything about it at this point). Best bet is that you can use https://i94.cbp.dhs.gov/I94/#/history-search to look up your US travel history and see that they have the dates mentioned for your Nov 2015 trip. If they are mentioned, then you are good as CIC won't likely check your passport but look at agency database details. If they are not there, it would be a separate issue all-together.

Hi Spyfy, asking a silly question maybe. But want to make sure. When mailing a family application ( two adults, two minors ) to Sydney, should it be OK if I mention "Family Application" on cover? In the guide they just mention to put "Adult" for Adult and "Minor" for minor.

@spyfy

Oops, it is my mistake.

I meant to say that I didn't put my name at the back of photos.

Will my application be returned in that case?

Can I do something pre-emptively to avoid my application being returned?

I really dont know they were particular about the photogragh section. I suggest you call them

@spyfy/Experts: Tricky Question Regarding Police Clearance Certificate:

I stayed in India for 182 with in last 4 years, but the total absent days is 184, 2 days were spent in Flight/Transit. As per for the CIC I need to submit a Police Clearance certificate if I stayed 183 or more in one country. Should I request a Police clearance certificate or mention 2 days as Transit. I really appreciate for your time and suggestion.

Thanks !!

A friend of mine who doesn't have any proof of language called a center takes care of Canadian English benchmark tests, they told him that the test result can't be a proof for the citizenship application. However, the cic website says that level 4 CLB is fine!! Any idea!
