anyone please answer these questions? i want to make sure i do this right!

"all these is required for the OPWB is just the application, checklist, employment letter (or contract), current copy of work permit, and AOR (i'm guessing a screen shot of the approval?)

do you need anything else? i.e. passport photos?

it seems weird to have such a simple package..usually cic likes to torture us with their requirements!"

thanks!

Couple of points -

If you apply online it will require you to submit a photo (not a "passport" photo per se, as they have particular specifications).

You don't need an employment letter or contract to apply for a BOWP - not sure where you read this - the "open" work permit is not tied to any employer.

The best thing is to read the operational bulletin 485A (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/resources/manuals/bulletins/2013/ob485A.asp) that describes who is eligible for the BOWP and what the process is to apply for it.

I applied for my BOWP on October 17th and just now received my approval email. Now that was FAST! Document is in the mail. Could not be happier right now. I am free to work for whoever I want!!

Congratulations. You got your BOWP in 15 days !! That's lightning fast by CIC standards.

Hope we all (waiting for it) get it soon too.

Was supposed to take 26 days according to CIC processing times right now. Glad to see
that things are speeding up in the end. :)))
Way to go

I was pleasantly surprised. I did not expect to get it until mid-end November.

I'd advise applying online as it will be processed in half the time. (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/temp.asp)

As far as I can tell the photo is the only difference.

Hey guys

I applied for BOWP on Oct 1 and received my refusal letter today:
I was laid off and since the new OB, it appears they are indeed becoming more strict on the 4 month ruling - my WP expires in Sept 2014.

That's fine...I already started thinking further and how to survive till March first week to be fully eligible for BOWP :)

For your case, I would say try to get Offer Letter from some employer and apply for BOWP with the offer letter. With Offer Letter and with good explanation letter, It is positive case to get BOWP. My case, I didn't had Offer Letter.

Also, see if any jugaad can be worked out to stay in Canada till you become full eligible (<4 months) for BOWP.

Hey Bhavik...I forgot to ask you one more important thing....Are you staying here as Bachelor or are you staying here with your family? All my colleagues who are married and applied for BOWP got it within 35 days and the only bachelor who applied for BOWP was rejected. Though all my colleagues applied before 19th Sept, 2013. That is a different story. Can you compare this criteria to you and your friends and let me know. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks & regards,
Kunishsa

Our current work permits expire on Jan 26th, 2014, we had applied on Oct 8th (withing 4 months of expiry)
In the CEC PR application, my husband is the principal applicant and I am the dependent.

sorry to hear that lpc.

I applied for bowp on 9 Oct twice, one before receiving the AOR and the other after the AOR. Today i received a letter indicating my second app was withdrawed as one document was already issued valid until 2014/11/01. I haven't received the approval letter yet but i am pretty sure our BOWP and spouse WP were approved on 2 November. The refund of my second app will be reimbursed to my credit card.

So my timeline is:
wp expired on 10 Oct 2013
bowp applied twice on 9 Oct
AOR received on 9 Oct
bowp approved on 2 Nov (I guess), valid until 1 Nov 2014
second app for bowp withdrawed on 4 Nov.
