Is there any amendment possible relating to residency requirement?? Can 3/4 pulled off and get back to 4 years ??

What? Then what is left in this bill?

Getting depressed reading this thread :'(

If they can touch the language requirement in the bill (In the bill C6 it was asked to move to 55 but they are now asking it to move to 60 ) so they can also play with Residency requirement

exactly, so let switch all of us to tweeter, we will have more benefits from giving opinions in this thread

I recently created my twitter account @sivabalan1975 and I have posted my comments on Senate CA, Hon Senator Ratna and Jaffer's page there.

@tyl92: Please add me to your page and I agree we must post our feedback to the Senators on Twitter.

there are a number of other amendments #senCA
1:45 PM - 5 Apr 2017

Utter rubbish !!!! What senate has been doing since bill was tabled last year!!!!!!. Very disappointing to see how Liberals are playing politics. There should be no point in amendments at this stage given many many sittings at senate level and then throwing bill to standing committee and back. Super ridiculous and unprofessional way to look at things. 2019 elections will be game changer for some of the things happening at the moment and this bill will also play major role.

Indeed twitter is a way forward to pass message. Honestly, if senate is going to discuss additional amendments at this stage then it clearly means C6 will be the victim of politics.

Imagine guys each amendment suggested needs to be voted again ( as same as what they did with first amendment) meaning Cons will have a chance again to stand and play the dirty game... so on so forth....

Next election 2019 will come , Libs will loose again..... Cons will keep the C 24

Happy Easter everybody

Folks - I know that we are all disappointed by the relentless gamesmanship exhibited by the conservatives on this bill. We are all angry, and feel letdown. But that is not enough. Look at an article that was posted here by someone before:

"Canadians must be able to trust that the government’s legislation will be reviewed by both houses of Parliament within a reasonable time. Indeed, at Westminster, the House of Lords is bound by a longstanding convention to that effect. And in other countries, second chambers are also disciplined by strict time limits for the review of government legislation. In those countries, if the upper house has not reached a decision within the set time, a bill is deemed to have passed automatically. Not so in the Canadian Senate. In theory, the Senate can delay passage of a bill virtually indefinitely.

As an example of these delays, Bill C-6 has been in Senate limbo since June, 2016. This bill would implement a Liberal electoral promise to repeal provisions of the Citizenship Act that increased the barriers to citizenship and created two-tier citizenship for dual nationals. The bill idled at second reading from September to December 2016. Within that time, only four Opposition senators spoke. That’s one speaker per month. Ironically, under the previous government the controversial provisions of the Citizenship Act that Bill C-6 would repeal were expedited through the Senate and adopted after only two sitting days of debate."

It is clear what is happening. I, for my part, am not surprised that conservatives are doing this. We all know they hate us. Believe me, they hate your guts. They could not care less whether you swim or sink, live or die. My disappointment really lies with the seemingly naiveté of the liberals. The law we are trying to reverse was passed in two sittings. Two! We all need to twitter these liberal senators, the CIC minister and PM Trudeau to express our anger!

Guys, Sen Omidvar, Harder and Jaffer are only reason we are here discussing C6.

If they were not there, nobody would even bring C6 out of committes and reading.

If you want to yell, email PM Trudeau and his minister Ahmed. Also, speaker of senate. Just vent your frustration there.

Also, tweet/email CON senators about how many days they work in year, and why bills sit in Senate for years.

all faults of liberals. they dismissed liberal caucus. they let the power of independents grow too fast. they failed to coordinate with senators to support the promises in the election. they failed to assess the situation (Harder even yesterday estimated voting by 13 April). and yes, they are too soft at too many times.

Just speculation, but I bet the Conservative senators just delay, delay, delay until Justin Trudeau prorogues Parliament and shuffles his cabinet this summer. All bills die then, so you have to start the whole process over again. Most Prime Ministers do this half-way through their term, and start fresh with a cabinet shuffle and a Speech from the Throne.
