One thing's for sure ... these "obstructionist" conservative senators are never going to get votes from new citizens. They can delay all they want ... for now ... but in future, they would be on the losing side ... once again.

This is the concerning part,, a flood of amendments which will each require voting, and this way delay the vote on the original bill.

I know for a fact that there was at least one properly submitted suggested amendment to Bill C-6 which was never shown to or circulated amongst the members of the SOCI cmte; this seems to suggest that the Conservatives are even prepared to act unethically in order to achieve their aim of thwarting this Bill.

I'm afraid, right now they have to deal with the opposition from the independent senators.

This is a real problem, every non-affiliated Sen. is on his/her own, there is no real caucus to rein them such as the Tories and the Liberals!!

Most independents want this to pass - they haven't delayed it to date. Like it or not, their job is to introduce amendments where they think it's needed. Let's see who the other amendments come.

Remember that the amendment re notice, introduced by a conservative senator, delayed us by days. It was introduced purely to delay the process.

Recently the voting results on C-6 amendments were like 32,33 for conservative delaying amendments, and 44 - 50 for pushing the bill.

So there is clear support for this bill in senate, it is just the delaying tactics by the cons which will cause un-predictive delays.

It is sad to see how cons are playing with the lives of Canadian residents. We should put more pressure on them via classical and social media.

What is surprising to me is that Liberals didn't play the same games when Harper was trying to pass C-24. I mean not even one adjournment ? Bill became law in 3 days. It seems like they only used C-6 to get elected.

Am I missing some piece of the puzzle that explains why liberals could not have "filibustered" like the Tories are doing, or atleast have had meaningful debates ?

This leads me to believe that they either didn't care about immigrants at the time and simply couldn't be bothered to object bill C-24, or were in favor of it. This is certainly backed by the fact that a lot more people were stripped of their Citizenship after Liberals came to power.
