1 is most likely and the least I expect
2 is what I hope because Minister McCallum, Sen. Omidvar and MP Kwan are working on amendments to enhance the revocation process. But those would be the only amendments accepted.
3 is impossible. The Senate will be reminded pretty convincinly of its role, exactly how it was the case for C-2 (tax credits) ans C-4 (Assisted-dying). They can 'enhance' a bill, not make it weaker or decide on its destiny.

If scenario 2 happens then we have to see in how much time things get sorted out.Because in the second reading the bill was moving at a snails speed but still somehow managed to pass this stage in 2.5 months so even if another 2 months are taken to pass the committee stage ,then it can go thorough 3rd reading within a month as there will not be much opposition and delay tactics at this stage after that and June 2017 will be a reasonable assumption for the royal assent.

I think (or hope ?) that Senator Omidvar had more than enough time to draft her 'Save-Minister-Monsef' amendements (even if I don't agree with that theory- imfact they don't save anyone) and that the Bill will quickly go through the Committee step.
I would expect that the Third reading will be half the duration of the Second reading (usually it's the case no ?) and then it's gonna be quick and smooth at the HoC (because NDP and Liberals are on the same page for this one).

I have little idea how things like this work in Canada. But your prediction and explanation is convincing. I really hope that it will turn out to be either 1 or 2. (for 3 it will be incredibly irresponsible of them all who make this bill drag that long, it's so unfair for PRs, esp those who have been affected by Harper's unforgivable bill C-24).

I like your signature :D :D

And as you can see, things work pretty slowly here. Especially when Liberals are in charge. Welcome to 'Snailada'

Does it go back to hoc for amendments (if it needs to go)after the comittee stage or after third reading ?

Per my understanding :

1- Committee
2- Senate Third Reading
3- HoC Yes/No for each amendment
4- Back to Senate for Third Reading

Does that make sense ?

If the HoC accepts the bill as amended by the Senate, it's not going back to the Senate, afaik.

Yes, also government jobs.
E.g. Service Canada often require it during interviews and what concerns me, the military.

Its not a rule, i believe it will be effective from july 2017

Bill c24 was effective after 1 year because it hurts some people, but c6 will not be harmful for anyone
Yes, I had the exact same thought process.
It's speculation and we might be wrong, but I also think July 2017 could be possible.
I'm keeping hope, we'll see.

Based on today's events I can say that the bill has reached its second last and most crucial stage. The senate is going to resume in last week of January 2017.By March next year everyone of use waiting eagerly for the fate of bill C6 will get a definate answer of whether c6 will pass and if yes when.Beacuse only 3 possibilities can emerge...
1.The Cons in the committee pass the bill as is.
2.The bill is sent to Hoc and the amendments are accepted and it is passed and sent for the third reading at the house.
3.The liberals and the Cons in the Committee are both not willing to leave their stance and the bill is doomed.

If anything from 1 or 2 happens then we will know for sure that bill will pass Third reading and get royal assent by Jun 2017 and we can expect the 3/5 rule to come into effect in reasonable time after that.
Wow! Nice explanation! Thanks!

But not RCMP anymore.
I think the Military are eventually going to relax the rules when they get more budget.

too many comments last 24 hrs but i still dont understand what happen to bill c-6?

Very good neeeeeeews guys , it seems that yesterday they changed the composition of all commitees ;)

So now all of the commitees are
40% conservatives
40% none affiliated
20% liberal none affiliated

So this means the committe would agree very fast ;D

Please find link below , where you could scroll to mid of the screen or choose ( committe selection option )

In the same way, how about the people who had to wait extra time to apply because they got caught to c 24 and if not might have been citizens by now? They didn't give a fair deal to the people who landed when the three year rule was in effect and then got caught in the middle
That's our case. Have to wait TWO extra years now. My wife and I would have been citizens probably this time last year. In the meantime, we have a business that's incorporated already, but she is the sole shareholder and officer. It's been sitting idle for three years now because my US citizenship makes it impossible for an American to own or manage a foreign corporation. So I cannot develop my business fully until I can renounce.

These are the potential names for the Social Affairs, Science and Technology committee:

Frum, Linda C
Neufeld, Richard C
Ogilvie, Kelvin Kenneth C
Raine, Nancy Greene C
Seidman, Judith G. C
Stewart Olsen, Carolyn C
Day, Joseph A. Lib.
Eggleton, Art Lib.
Merchant, Pana Lib.
Cormier, René Non-affiliated
Dean, Tony Non-affiliated
Demers, Jacques Non-affiliated
Mégie, Marie-Françoise Non-affiliated
Meredith, Don Non-affiliated
Petitclerc, Chantal Non-affiliated

The bolded names are seemingly hapless including (possibly) the green colored one although appointed recently by JT.

Again, Omidvar is not in the committee.

That's been sent earlier, this composition has been confirmed.

I wonder why Omidvar stood and decided to refer the C-6 to a committee that she is not a member in it!!!

Renouncing can also take some time. Wait times have skyrocketed of late.

There might have been a discussion about it or pre arranged and I am sure that Omidvar will join discussions, the two bolded IND's were appointed by Harper, so if they vote with the CONS they will get the majority, let's hope that they will consider otherwise

It doesn't really matter. It's a government Bill and Omidvar must have trusted an IND Senator to introduce the amendements
