Applying for work permit on a visitor status UK citizen?

Hello,
I am a British citizen currently in Canada on a 6month visitor visa which expires November (I will be applying for an extension).
1) Can I obtain a work permit whilst I am in Canada and only on a visitor visa?
2) If so, how long does the process take and how much?

If you qualify for a work permit, you can visit the nearest Canada/US land border and "flagpole" to obtain a work permit. (Search this forum for "flagpole" and you'll find many threads explaining what this is.)

To qualify for a work permit, you must first find an employer who is willing to give you a job offer and then that employer must obtain an approved Labour Market Opinion. Obtaining the approved LMO typically takes a few months.
