Guys,

I visited the LA office for visa stamping. Here is my experience.

We went in on Jan 04. Reached Hope Street at 8.10AM. Parking is a nightmare as there are 4 options and each are costlier than the other. We parked at the one that was $10 per day, but later found out that was not needed.

Went in to the Consulate at about 8.20AM. We were the first to arrive. The security was real nice and friendly. Everyone is supposed to get a token number. But since we were the first to arrive, he did not give us one, just asked us to wait in front of counter 5. By around 8.35AM 5-6 people came in, of which 2 were for immigration stamping.

The counter opened at 8.30, the office received our papers and gave us a pink paper which said that pp can be collected between 2.30-3.00PM. (Unlike Buffalo which gives the PP back in couple hours). Thats when we decided to provide a stamped self-addressed priority mail envelope. The officer said that the stamped PP will be sent to us in two days.

We left the consulate and everything was complete in half hour. Thats why you dont need all day parking.

We got our PP back yesterday with the maple leaf.

Thanks to all the seniors who have provided us with valuable inputs.

Congrats jang, I would do the same thing not wasting few hours in the consulate. Several days doesn't really matter at this point.

Hi Professional 1,
I hope you are doing well, and I remember that you advised me to write an email to VO for 2nd AOR I am grateful for the advice. That was beginning of last year 2010.Anyway, I am still waiting for Medical request.

As you know I am already in Canada as a student. My student visa will expire September 2011. I will be graduate May 2011 and will be eligible for PGWP for next 3 years. do I need to renew my study permit, while PGWP is in process? What is the rules for them who wants to reentry in Canada once their student visa is expired, in spite of valid PGWP?
Your response will be appreciable.
Thanks.

Hi loveworld,

If your study permit document (not the student visa) expires On Sep 2011, and you will graduate on May 2011, you are fine, and there is no need to renew your study permit as long as CIC receives your PGWP application before the expiry date of your study permit, and you apply after you graduate within less than 3 months for your work permit.

Regarding the exit and reentry to Canada after you get the PGWP, you need to apply for a Temporary resident visa (TRV) in Buffalo after you receive your PGWP from CIC.

You will have to send a copy of the PGWP with the application to Buffalo visa office.

Good luck.

Sent our passports to LA on Jan 6 and they received it on Jan 07. I had to wait to get my wife's passport from my home country. How is everything going with all you guys? Hopefully I will land on late June or early July, but before that I need a break from my damm study and go home ....

I have seen the Update on Thursday. I am not sure what to think off I will follow it up on Monday with the Consulate also may be by that time I may get the letter also regarding the decision will update..till then fingers Crossed... :-\

I have a question regarding the PPR

When Passport Request is received does it mean we have 2 options to get it done ? :-
1) To personally visit the Canadian Consulate (for people in this thread- Buffalo, Detroit, LA, New York etc), get visa stamped.
2) Mail it and get it stamped.

If we visit the NY-Canadian Consulate PERSONALLY is it true that VISA STAMPING will be done in 1day ?
How many days will it take it we send the passport through MAIL for stamping ?

I guess for people living near (Buffalo, Detroit, LA, New York) it makes a lot of sense to go personally and get it stamped the same day rather than mailing and waiting for the Passport to arrive....

Any comments/inputs/thoughts are highly appreciated..
Thanks.

cover letter and references?

Hi,

Do cover letters and references help? I know they are not required, but I read from some lawyers' websites that talk about these things.

Thanks,

Mark

Hey Anil, I'm sorry that I'm one of the members who were for the NY quota and insisted that we won't receive the PPR until next year, now you got it ;). Congrats man, I hope that I will receive the same thing next week...
